The amount is actually rather conservative in terms of the value of the production. The mission with High Tease is to 'raise the barre' (pun intended!) for the burlesque genre, so professional entertainers must be paid and accommodated accordingly.

It's up to the individual enthusiast if they wish to also invest in the future of the newly emerging burlesque industry (or not), by enjoying such events and supporting producers who take the risk and put up the money to raise the profile and public perception of a burlesque 'standard'. Without this, amateur-oriented clubs will be the only option meaning that growth and investment can never actually be achieved beyond vanity projects. This is also why producers must be supportive of each other too.

Having produced and lived in London for 5 years, I can confiently state that £18 is a modest price to pay for such a show - never mind it also having the glorious Vegas! club-night to follow.

With the venue also being so charismatic, and the price of beverages in Glasgow to be envied the UK over, the whole event makes for a splendid splash on one's self and compadres at the festive time. I'd urge those who aren't local's to book a cosy B&B and make a weekend of it - after all it's an opportunity to make very merry indeed.

Hi 'Foxy', High Tease and Vegas! are most definitely two shows. As people who have been to High Tease know, we make no allusions about being a 'club'. High Tease is a variety revue show pure and simple and it concentrates on quality performances from the best performers in the business. Vegas! is the club night and once High Tease finishes the venue is changed about to add the Vegas ambiance.

At the end of the day, it's up to you which event you decide to attend (if any). There are no right or wrong choices - just enjoy.

    Hi Foxy,
have you been to one of the shows before? All I can say is... you get what you pay for! High Tease has the best burlesque & cabaret performers, set in a stunning venue and is a top class production (even if I do say so myself ;-)

High Tease & Vegas are two separate shows that compliment each other. We each have our own cast and show content, produced by me Blond Ambition Events and Frankie Sumatra of Vegas. £18 for two shows in one evening is a very modest price to pay!

As James said, at the end of the day its up to you. I don't impose a strict dress code, so nobody should feel that they have to buy a new outfit (though its wonderful to see our guests getting into the spirit of things) all I ask is for people to come along with a smile and enjoy.

having attended the one of the high tease shows in edinburgh recently i have to agree that the ticket price is very reasonable...and at xmas...well some of us dont have a lot of nights out throughout the year and xmas nights out are classed as something a wee bit special...therefore meriting a wee bit extra out of the pocket (even if the ticket price was unreasonable which it isnt!!!) and heres a thought...what nicer xmas pressie than a ticket to a cracker (no pun intended there well ok it was intentional!!!) of a show!!!! we will be there!!!

Personally I like to go to a whole mix of shows. Its great to get into a show for under a tenner however I don't at all grudge £15, £20, £25 + plus shows as well. This way I get to see up and coming, enthusiasts and the creme of the crop. The selling point for me for High Tease and Burlescapades is the mix of local performers and of those from a-far which doesn't come cheap. Putting on a show aint cheap and although I'm sure the producers love what they're doing I don't imagine they are up for footing the bill too!! I actualy think £18 for this particular event is rather reasonable but can understand if its simply compared price for price why you've questioned it Foxy but hopefully the above posts have answered your question.
As a peformer as well its important for me to support shows that don't exploit the performers and pay well - as a punter this means a higher ticket price.

Glad to see High Tease back at the fruitmarket, its such a fantastic venue. Really looking forward to it and will hopefully be staying in Glasgow that night and leaving the car at home woo hoo! Looking forward to hear who's performing . Now, what to wear....

Speaking as both a performer and a regular audience member, my personal opinion is that the price is incredibly good value given the high production level of the night. High Tease has hosted some of the biggest names in not only national, but INTERNATIONAL burlesque & variety (Amanda Palmer & Immodesty Blaize just to name a few) and consistently treats its audience to a polished, veritable smorgasbord of comedy, cabaret and raunch. Quite simply, burlesque will not be taken seriously as a legitimate theatrical art form, nor will audiences find themselves viewing full line-ups of professional , high- class performers in a top-standard show if promoters' are not willing to pay their acts appropriately.

Very much looking forward to this one. I still have withdrawal symptoms from performing at High Tease during the Edinburgh Fringe and The Old Fruitmarket is a stunning venue with a delicious atmosphere. Mine's a gin & lime.

    xx CL

Thanks folks for explaining the cost. I still think it's a bit much for me at that time of year and sadly may have to give it a miss unless my fairy godmother pops up. I have been to the Vegas nights before and they are great fun so I sincerely hope it all goes well for everyone including performers, participants and punters.

Is it true Club Noir is also on the same night? Do none of the organisers in the burlesque community have some kind of plan of action to make sure these events don't clash? It's such a shame they can't be spread about evenly so that us ordinary mortals can enjoy these nights on a more regular basis rather than waiting for ages on one and they all come on the same day. (Very much like a 62 bus!)

Also Queen Bea calling someone confrontational and naive because they have never 'put on a night' is not conducive to pulling in fact finding potential fee paying members of the public. We are entitled to ask before we commit our monies to a night out. As you are well aware there are a lot of posers and chancers around who think by adding the word 'Burlesque' to an event they can then charge whatever they like and sadly have ideas well beyond ability. I'd like to thank Calliope Cootch for explaining that the price is to prevent performers from being exploited. This makes perfect sense now to me and is highly commendable in protecting genuinely talented performers.

I have another question folks... Will it be safe for tvs to attend? I never got round to taking my tv mates to Vegas nights as we were not sure what sort of reception they might get. There are only a handful of 'safe' places in Glasgow. It's difficult to guage the mood of the public sometimes.

apoparently it is the same night as club noir. I just checked the website.

I however will not be attending club noir. I personally like the more fetish edge of club noir and I love the performers. But I do not like now busy it is at the 02 and and I never have a good night becuase of that. Plus I hate the treck through nedsville to get there and back.

Edit: @ foxy - you would be befectly at home at high tease and Vegas.
    We're all very lovey
