Phoawarrrr...

Like I say, overall great but for one complaint in that there was one amateur whom stood out and that was Ms Louvre Rouge or what-ever, a few wines too many and a pout to make many a man boke. I overheard a few comments and wonder why what was such a brilliant night otherwise was 'skid marked' with such a car crash performance, I say that singularly as I couldn't stand to watch the second... car wreck in progress. Ok so shoot me down for my honesty...

Did Louvre Rouge sneak up from the burlesque class from the wonderful Viva without a ticket?
Having also seen your post on La Cheetah thread you say you review! So
using your own words - shoot me down for my honesty.
I hope that you pay better attention and make the effort required to remember the performers names for tonights show. The fact that you can't remember and make no effort to apologise for it speaks volumes.
I also hope that you provide more, shall we say, constructive criticism rather than a damning attack on one perfomer and a gloss over the others.
As a newbie who has sat on the side contemplating my debut (for too long some will say) I know how nerve racking it is and the amount of confidence and effort that goes into going up on stage to perform let alone doing a fresh routine (ask any performer about debuting new routines) and I feel personally that what you have said about Rouge very offensive, unworthy, unhelpful and totally unnecessary. It will not help any other performers/newbies wishing to use this 'fundraiser' as a stepping stone or to debut new acts in front of an appreciative audience.
As a "virgin" of the glasgow scene I'm disappointed at such scathing remarks from your first show. The Red Door has been running for a while with newbies and old performers rubbing shoulders and having a great time before, during and after the show. New routines and old favourites have been seen by many people as well as raising money for our Panopticon. ( well worthy). Everyone involves puts in a lot of effort to ensure these run.

Those performers that got up on that stage do so for many reasons but for most of those non pros (amateurs) its for fun and part of a hobby they enjoy. The FUN element is a driving element for lots of those performers who are not making money from it and this is the element that you seem to have forgotten.

My only other comment is a personal one - the slight that you put on Viva's class is uncalled for. Yes I attend, Yes i paid my ticket the same as everyone else but how dare you imply that the Rouge sneaked up from that class simply because she was amateur. So you are essentially saying that anyone in that class doesn't pay a ticket and any performances will be, in short, crap and amateurish You may not have meant like that but that is how it reads and that I do take offense at.

"say hi to girl with the camera" - I may just take the opportunity to do so

Just to echo what's already been said really. Evenings at places like the Art Bar are a great place for more experienced acts to mingle with up-and-comers, to ensure the former get the freshness of new talent, and the newbies get the chance to improve their game.

I had to run off straight after my slot, but I left a show which was varied, fun and had a brilliantly supportive atmosphere. I also didn't pick up on anyone spoiling the night with a bad performance.

I'm actually not against people levelling criticism in public (we are, after all, putting on show which people have paid for) but there are ways of doing so constructively, when appropriate and when you have the experience to do so with knowledge. I'd also say that if you're a new act who's read somewhere that someone didn't enjoy your act (and God knows Myfanwy's not everyone's cup of gin) then don't let it put you off performing . Take on board anything you think is valuable and then prance off in your kitten heels to your next gig. If you find your confidence really knocked, then just ask someone whose opinion you trust and work on ways of developing.

Bad reviews (even casual ones on forums) will happen to everyone. I just don't think this is really the place for them.

    Lots of love,

    The Welsh Lass.

like some of the previous posters i also find the post by Lady Gingerbeer to be out of place on the MoB forum...this is only the second post that i have felt compelled to answer back to in this fashion and the first post i replied to was in the exact same vein ie.personal attack and insulting a performer unneccessarily. I also attend viva's class and read the comment in the same way that suzuki sparks did, when i finished class i popped up for a drink and due to the fact i only had five minutes till my lift arrived didnt stay, (the show hadnt even started by then anyway.) so i may not be in a place to comment on performances but i do feel strongly that no one deserves the personal, catty and scathing remarks levelled by Lady gingerbeer ...ive always found this forum to be friendly and supportive so these personal comments do feel totally out of place...constructive criticism is one thing.........

Firstly I'd like to thank everyone who came along on Wednesday night. The crowd was fantastic and I had a really fun show. I have been ill for quite a few months so its amazing to be back out and performing again and to catch up with everyone . Plus the panoptican is a fantastic theatre and I am thrilled to be a part of restoring such an amazing and historic venue.

Also LadyGingerBeer - before you critisise any new performers try getting up on stage! My first ever show (at the panoptican actually) I was shaking so much woth nerves and I forgot all the choreography - at elast it was a troupe act so i could copy what everyone else was doing.

I still get nervous to this date and i get shaky with nerves with new acts for the first 2-3 times i do them. The only act I dont get nervous with anymore is my isis act as I have performed that about 10 times now and put in a stupid ammount of rehersal time into it so i know it inside out and upside down.
