One More For The Road
Hello All,
Firstly, Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful and suitably messy festive!
Slowly but surely, myself and the team at RwP Towers are coming out of hibernation and gearing up for all the exciting projects we have in store for 2010. But more on those relevant to the glamorous world of burlesque in later posts.
Presently I would like to let you all know about a personal labour of love that I will be unleashing upon the unsuspecting cabaret public on the 22nd of February.
For the past few months I have been squirreled away in a studio with the exceptionally talented Chris Gorman - www.myspace.com/gormanband.
Some of you will know Gorman - the soulful and enigmatic gentleman behind the piano at events such as Red Door Burlesque & The Art Club Cabaret.
I have had the great fortune of performing with Chris Gorman for just under a year now and for the past few months we have been working on a collaborative project, "One More For The Road", which will serve as the debut show for Lucille Burn. Further detail below, I would be delighted if you could read on...
(Thanks to Scott @ Gallusness.com for the fabulous poster design!)

ONE MORE FOR THE ROAD - AN EVENING WITH LUCILLE BURN
MONDAY 22 FEBRUARY, 8.00PM, THE GLASGOW ART CLUB
Lucille Burn is a classic chanteuse for the 21st Century. With no professional voice training, having taught herself to sing by listening to old Judy Garland and Julie London vinyl records followed by years of practice at the back of chorus lines and in front of the mirror; Lucille finally stepped under the glorious artificial glow of the solo spotlight in 2005 riding the resurgent wave of Cabaret.
Lucille is now the resident singer at classic musical variety show, The Art Club Cabaret, co-host of art phenomenon Dr Sketchy Glasgow and the glamorously chaotic MC of painfully hip burlesque club, Rockaburley. Lucille will sing even when no one asks her to and occasionally for two fingers of gin.
With a voice that is raw, passionate and soulful, Lucille is a modern day musical raconteur with a dry sense of humour and eccentric sensibility reminiscent of the bygone era of torch-carrying sirens.
From cabaret classics to putting her own spin on contemporary tunes, Lucille's sets are expressive, powerful and highly entertaining.
"Lucille Burn's re-inventions of classic, smouldering songs hint at a confident cabaret that is ready to stretch its possibilities." - THE SKINNY MAGAZINE
One More For The Road is the debut solo show from Lucille Burn which she has developed with her musical partner and pianist, Chris Gorman.
"Dark and powerful...Glasgow's music scene has always produced amazing talent...Gorman is the latest example" - PRS New Music
Chris Gorman has been gathering acclaim for his incredibly powerful sound that has often been likened to that of Jeff Buckley and Tom McRae. One More For The Road is the result of this highly complementary musical collaboration and is a bittersweet and affecting journey through Lucille’s influences and thoughts.
Through song and story Lucille talks about life, love and the music that moves her; from the tragedy of Judy Garland, mournful courage of Camille O’Sullivan, delicacy of Sarah McLachlan to the glamorous blues of Julie London, One More For The Road is a Tanquery-infused musing on love, loss, addiction, loneliness and passion for melody.
"A diva in correct and true sense of the word" - LADY L PROMOTIONS
"A more sultry take on the cabaret tradition." THE DAILY RECORD
One More For The Road is a co-production with Glasgow Theatre Company, Rhymes with Purple Productions.

*sighs* I had such high hopes for Chris Gorman but really he's doing himself no favours by teaming up with that so called "singer" Lucille ! Still, I suppose it's nice of him to try to offer her some credibility... *sniggers*
hehehe Of course this date is in my diary, Lou! I'll make sure I'm not working so I can stay out to rock and roll with you!
xx
P.S. Do you want a cake? *laughs*

Trollied bint is correct, ma'am!
Thanks for the support and interest folks, it's much appreciated.
In case it's of interest Gorman and I are doing a sneaky little preview of the show at the Tron Theatre for the TBC Cabaret on the 18th.
TBC is a fab wee multi-arts cabaret night that will have a lot of interesting performers from across the Scottish arts industry.
Only a Fiver and an excellent bar to drink in! Follow the link for details and to book ^_^

Sounds like exactly the right excuse I need to get my buns over to Glasgow on a weeknight and I'm looking forward to it. I send my best wishes to the star of the show!

Aw, thanks Dee! It would be absolutely awesome if you could make it through. Not least because it would be lovely to meet you properly, I don't believe we've managed that yet, due to the busy madness that is the cabaret circuit!
Should the show go well in Glasgvegas, I'm toying with the idea of maybe doing it Edinburgh as well.

I know, this MUST be remedied and a night with such a fine soundtrack must be the cure + an Edinburgh show would be awesome!
