Help performing a fan dance
Hi all
I wanted to ask how do you end your fan dances. I have used fans in the past as part of a routine but not for the whole piece. I have never done a piece with out a tassel at the end so this will be an odd one for me. Also if you have any other tips on fan dances that would be great to.
Thanks in advance

Hi Diva
I do two different fandances but I strike a pose at the end of each (different poses for each obviously). One is kind of cheeky / peek-a-boo, so I finish by finally showing my tassels and pose with one fan in front and one behind, giving the audience a wink or a kiss. The other routine is much more fluid / dance-based so I end in an angel-wings pose, which is quite striking.
Fans are ace like that; there are so many beautiful shapes you can make, as you'll know from dancing with them. So I would suggest breaking down your movements in front of the mirror until you find something that looks visually striking and also fits with the theme of your act.
Also, check out the old Sally Rand dvds available on ebay and have a look at what the original dancers did.
Good luck!

I think ending with a pose is fabulous, or you can swirl your way offstage if the stage permits it.
Save, save, save your reveal. The one mistake I think some newbies make is that the audience gets impatient if they don't see pasties quick enough. But the audience has seen tons of boobs and they're as interested in the journey as they are in the destination.
I have an ebook on my site which has a chapter about fan-dancing in it, and there are lots of fan dances on youtube that might inspire you.

Hi, I like to end with a pose with the fans held high up above my head, saving the reveal until last. I want to learn to strip while fan dancing as well though.

Thanks for the tips and advice, I will check out your page Jo. I am working on two very different ones. The first fingers crossed will be reveled in about three weeks its the most untraditional one. I guess I just got to get on with practicing and filming them and see what comes out.

I did sort of wonder what you meant.
I am not worried about that I have been performing long enough to no that the tease is the thing that make the piece enjoyable and also to have different moods running through the piece.
My problem is I like to have stories a beginning a middle and an end. With a fan dance I think I was concerned with how you got that big ending that makes the audience smile, laugh.... clap.
I have been looking at lots on line before I posted this and decided to do one myself but I just wanted other performers feelings on how they perform a fan dance I guess.
