Default L.A in October!

Right... I'm all sorted for L.A now: I'm already supposed to be doing a couple of shows whilst I'm over there, but I was wondering if anyone else knew of anything going on between the 9th and 16th... and also any suggestions for vintage shops, places to go and things to do, as the friend I'm staying with may be touring for part of that time?

Any ideas gratefully recieved, as I've never been before!

Hi ma dear!!!

Will get you some info - I go out to LA every year to see family and friends but never get much chance to do any interesting shopping. One of my friends is a shopping fiend so I'll get the inside scoop on the vintage stores there for you, plus there is supposed to be an incredible vintage/antiques market too - will find out the name of that too!! The exchange rate is fab at the moment (think it's $2.00 to a £1.00) so if you can stock up whilst you're there.

BTW - for a laugh stop by 'Trashy Lingerie' - (think they are down Sunset Blvd but not 100% sure - their website is www.trashy.com - though the site doesnt do the shop justice. The shop is so much fun - it's like a giant dressing up store!)

You lucky thing - hope you have a fab time!!!

I'm thinking now that I might be heading to SF too! Just realised Tease-o-rama is on whilst I'm out there and I don't want to miss that!

I already put the bit about San Fran in another post, so have just cut and pasted...the LA stuff is new though!

New York Apparel on Lower Haight in San Fran is a must see. Lots of frilly Leg Avenue pants and stockings which are a third of the price they are here.

The whole street from there down to Aardvarks is fantastic, seonc hand places like Wasteland etc. It really is a must see. Check out Held Over at 1543 Haight and La Rosa (pricey but very nice) at 1711 Haight.

Clothes Contact 473 Valencia at 16th is ace - they do clothes by weight. And I have heard sister store Mission Thrift at Mission and 19th is also great, sequinned pants for 22 dollars.

No doubt there are other places, which don't yet come to mind, but honestly, take an empty case. I was in SF and surrounding area for nine days and just shopped like a mad woman. Daiquiri Dusk can testify to this, and I'm sure has some suggestions of her own.

I would also highly recommend a trip to Santa Cruz as the Main Street has tons of second hand and vintage style shops and Daiquiri got some great bargains there, including a fabulous wig that would have cost the earth over here.

LA: Jetrag on La Brea is AMAZING! Three floors of crazy clithes everything from 40s upwards. Also lots of nice places on Melrose, they have chains of Aardvarks and Wasteland.

Loads of shows on, Minsky's Burlesque in SF and in LA I've been to Lolia la vey's show although I think she had moved it now.

Any other queries just PM me!
