Its upsetting but it happens, you just have to ignore them I guess. Its all jealousy anyway.

OMG I have just read this thread. It makes me really mad when people do this.

I have worked as a pole dancer for 4 years and have often come accross similar situations where women (and sometimes men also) have come in, knowing that there is pole/lap dancing going on and just sat there and bitched and just been plain nasty to the dancers.

I always found that the best thing to do in this situation is to blank it out, don't let them know that you have heard. Give a blinding performance and really enjoy what you are doing. This is the best way of getting back at these types of people.

You really don't need that sort of negativity when you are up there on the stage. but I do believe that people react like this when they are insecure and jealous, secretly wishing that they were the one in the spot light.

And remember that for every one person who is behaving like that, there is probably 100 other people in the club who are in complete awe and think you are wonderful.

:-)

This is the attitude I just don't understand. if you don't like it, don't go! If it's well advertised that there will be entertainment you won't enjoy, then go somewhere else and save yourself the offence! What's the point of paying money for a night out you'll spend complaining?

To be fair, I once ended up in a club where there was lapdancing going on - even though the bouncer had said it didn't that night (just the rest of the week, lol). The atmosphere just wasn't for me so I left. But I did resent paying out the money to get in and felt the club should have advertised better!

When I saw this post I had to reply and tell you all about a truly horiffic experience that myself and Von Bourbon had a few weeks ago. As mercenary as we are we took a booking at a terrible house club, which shall go unnamed because the money was good, we thought we would be able to have a dance to some dirty electro get our friends in for free, make use of the limitless rider and generally have a good time whilst getting paid for it...
How wrong were we?
Aside from the gig being one of the worst organised I have ever attended the audience reaction was terrible, at one point a girl who had cleary had too many party perscriptions put her bag on the chair I was using for a chair dance, a crazed bongo player started keeping time with our music and the DJ started scratching our songs, a girl and boy started dancing in front of Beatrix, it was truly horrendous. We did the best we could and smiled through each of our routines even though we wanted to cry. At the end of the night we clutched our cash which was well earned and now have a fountain of funny stories to entertain people with (we met a boy called Brad the stripper, heard about a man called Big Big Big Twelve and plucked chewing gum off a revellers shoulder).

But again like Beatrix I can understand how burlesque could go down badly at an event where people were not expecting to see burlesque, the audience at that club didn't know how to view a burlesque, it's no excuse for bad manners but I can see both sides of the coin.

However on occasions where (mainly) girls have been derogatory to me I usually use them in the show as many other performers have written here, nothing gets them more irate than for them to see that their words havn't harmed you!
