    Default Ovarian Cancer

Hi everyone, been ages since I've been on here, and it's all changed!! Anyway, do any of you have any experience of Ovarian Cancer? I;ve recently had surgery and feel a bit high and dry and was wondering if anyone else has been through the same?

    Thanks in advance
    xx

How awful for you. Sending hugs. I hope and pray that's an end to your troubles. How were you first aware of it? It's something no one I know has experienced but hopefully some good can come out of this topic if it spreads awareness and support.

    Hi Foxy, thanks for replying.

It started off like a niggly pain in my side/stomach, like a pulled muscle, got worse til I couldn't lie down at all. Went to hospital who suspected gall stones/appendicitis, had scan and had a massive cyst on my ovary. Had an op to remove and they tested it and found it to be cancerous. There aren't many symptoms, so it was due to having such a big cyst so that it caused discomfort that it was diagnosed.

Thanks Arthur, I couldn't put a seperate reply to you as it's classed as bumping x

    Hi,

Very, very sorry to hear of your troubles. However on a brighter side the advances in cancer research over the past few years are phenomenal and really comforting. My mum was diagnosed stage four three years ago now, NHS had pretty much written her off but she's still here today and fighting. I'm not sure what her secret is but staying positive, I believe, is a wonderful tool.
There are so many ups and downs but if you can accept the highs with the lows this will all help. Also make use of all the support in your area you can get. In Edinburgh we are fortunate to have the Maggie's centre who are just fantastic. Its a drop-in centre for patients, friends, family, colleagues...they provide free support, advice, classes and escapism. If you have something similar in your area give it a go. My mum was sceptical at first and decided it wasn't for her but now is a convert!

I wish you all the very best and look after yourself.xx

    Hi Calliope

Thanks so much for your message, it really helps when I hear positive things about other people, you get bogged down with statistics and percentages, this makes it seem less daunting. Thanks for the advice with regards to support, we have the Macmillan cancer support here, and it sounds very similar to what your mum attends. I'm really glad that your mum is responding well to treatment, send her my regards and thanks for the advice
I'm definately trying hard to be positive, and I think when I get back to work and get back into a routine and some kind of "normality", then it will become easier.

    Take care
    xx

    Hello Mistresslenore,

This is a subject extremely close to my heart as my dear beloved mother died from Ovarian Cancer 4yrs ago so although i have not actually been through it myself i have quite a good understanding of what you and your family must be going through! I am so so glad you have sought the courage to seek out guidance on here i take my fascinator off to you! You are very very brave and i wish you a healthy recovery
Another massive nod for the macmillan nurses from me who were a godsend to us when they cared for my mum at home during her final days!
My mum was so brave during her fight against this terrible disease and remained so until the end! I don't know that i could have been so wonderful!
Attitude is key in how we deal with the horrible things in life and knowing that others are going through exactly the same things!
    HOPE THIS HELPS!

See you are brave . It's going to take a long time for you to come to terms with the loss of someone so close to you honey, I know that the Macmillan support also offer help to relatives and friends, or if you want to talk message me, I'll be here for you any time, even if you just want to vent.
I don't think you all know how much this thread is helping with like minded people of my age group talking about their experiences, I am really lucky to have this support.

    Thank you
