Terrified..
Okay guys, I just received this message off a creep on My Space:
Please read this & think carefully about it.
1) you might think that using a different name on your Myspace page means that people won't connect you with your real life identity - WRONG - google your own name, and i bet you can get to your secret identity on Myspace in about 2 steps.
You really need to have a Myspace page that's separate from your own name.
2) it's very very silly to say where your day job is. Firstly because you have no idea what strange sort of person might turn up at your work after seeing you perform, or ogling your pics on your Myspace page. Secondly, maybe you don't think there's anything disreputable about burlesque , but are you sure your employers feel the same way? People can be very old fashioned about some things.
ANd not everyone will be cool about an employee who takes off her clothes in public for a hobby.
3) I don't know your parents, but I wonder how they would feel about finding out what you've been doing. You may not feel that there is anything wrong. But would they feel the same way?
If you're just 18, as you say, you're pretty young to be doing this - you may feel all grown up and responsible, but I imagine anyone's parents would be upset at finding this out. Unless you're living on your own already of course... but not many 18 year olds are.
I'm not trying to freak you out - well I suppose I am. Just want you to realise it's a much smaller world than you think it is - and Glasgow is a much smaller town than you imagine.
And yes, just in case you are wondering - I do know your real name, Miss McNab.
What do you guys think about this?

Oh my god, that's horrendously scary!
Could it be someone pulling your leg trying to scare you?
At least i hope that's what it is!
If it is someone trying to scare you, they're pretty sick.
I mean how personal are they being with the whole 'what do your parents think?'.

I'm hoping that's what it is too!
I know exactly! I was trying to think who wasn't fond of me performing burlesque and/or who maybe didn't like me as well, but I can't really think of anyone who would send that sort of message!
The last part scares me the most! They know my surname

Yeah that's pretty freeky, though he does raise a couple of important points, you have put an awful lot of personal info on your myspace page, which could allow someone to find you without too much effort and secondly there are employers out there who would not like it to be known that they employ someone who does modelling, let alone someone who does burlesque , as the recent news articles have shown, an awful lot of (ill informed) people still associate burlesque with the sex industry

i know its upsetting to get a message like this, but do your best to ignore it!
its someone either trying to play a hurtful joke, or is a bit prudish, or is jealous!!!
be burly and proud! ....its as though they're trying to make out you're a child murderer or something! you have done nothing wrong!!!!
seriously, just ignore it!!!

Hi Sweets
OK, from what I can tell this creep probably doesn't mean any harm but I can see why you're creeped out - there are so many boundaries this guy has crossed here it's unbelievable so you have every right to be angry apart from anything else (what business exactly is it of the message writer's what you do or do not do with your spare time or on MySpace given that you definitely did not invite such interest from him/her).
In terms of what to do, aside from the obvious blocking so s/he can't contact you again if I were you I'd keep this message and let the MySpace administrators know about this incident.
That way if he does contact you again after you block him or her you'll be able to show MySpace administrators and the police (if he tries to contact you after you've blocked him that is cyberstalking and its a police matter at that point) a trail of messages and the MySpace administrators will have a note of the previous complaint.
Oh boy, now I'm sounding like your Mum! :embarrassed: Seriously - this just sounds like a lonely creep who doesn't have anything better to do with his/her time than act as imaginary white knight rescuing naive maidens from themselves :ill: and if you block him/her you'll probably never hear from them again.
But if you take a few precautions then you can make yourself a hell of a lot safer and better prepared if s/he does decide to make a nuisance of him/herself.
I'm really sorry this happened to you sweets - it must have been horrible to log on and discover a turd like this in your inbox.
Have mucho cyberhugs!

I have to say with very little effort (3 mins) and only from stuff that you have posted here or on your various sites it is possible to find out an awful lot about you (full name, age, where you hang out and so on), however I'd guess that the idiot concerned already knows you from somewhere, possibly school or work.
By the way I'm only reasonably good at manipulating data, someone more competant than I or with more time to waste could probably find out more, I don't want this to worry you but I really would think about editing my web pages if I were you and getting rid of at least some of the data.

I have edited my pages so that they don't give out that much information anymore. My My Space was the first to get changed! But this being said, I did google myself like that creep suggested and only managed to get my stage name, age and my hometown. So where they got my real name from, I'll never know! Unless as you say dude, that they do know me from School or the likes.

It just seems like such a sinister thing to do!
And what made it worse was that I was in the house myself when I received this message
Thank god for the other half coming down after he heard about this!

Your Firstname is still on your Myspace page, look in the Feedback section, but what I think happened is someone googled your real name, found your twitter site and from there found your myspace page, I just worked it in reverse, found your first name where I've just said, you posted your surname above.
Personally I'd suggest you take out the companies and schools section of your myspace page, they provide information that could be of use to a stalker but are unlikely to be used by anyone thinking of hiring you for a show.
Anyway having done my good deed for the day I'm off to bed, don't let the idiot frighten you but do keep a record of the message and anything else he might send just in case
Ah I see you've now set your profile to private, much better and safer option I think, well done
