Heh, heh, I used to have a 12 inch reflector in Scotland, dome, the works, these were the days of clockwork movements for amatuer scopes of this size, anyway, I got inspired to do some more photographic astronomy due to a "new" technique coming out. I read it in Sky And Telescope, it was to freeze your cut bit of 35mm film when it was in the holder but before going into the camera? I does all the setting up, I was going to image M52 for th first time with a frozen film so the end result would be a lot better than non frozen film. ANyway, I decided to take a look at the Galaxy M52 through a low power, wide field eye piece before fitting the camera.........................And got frightened to death!! As I looked into the eye piece the bigest fifing SEAGULL you ever saw decided to fly slowely across the field of view..................When I saw it it had its wings folded so looked kindova spaceship shaped in the lights form the town reflecting from its underneath................I did get the image of M52 though

Does anyone remember those little bits of metal we had to use to bend the bit of cut film so that it fitted the curvature of the mirror? I bet not!

i was lucky - in my sky, it was a smiley a big smiley. it made me feel happy inside. and i got to watch it sparkle over the storey bridge, over the brisbane river.
