    Default Creepy libraries....

    Hi,
This is an odd thing to post about, but after the day Ive just had, please bear with me.

I went to the library this afternoon and it was swarming with general weirdness...

First off, while deep in thought (ahem, writing a penpal letter) a cute guy kept staring at me-most likely because I was directly in his line of vision. Then, there were two creepy guys staring...(VERY not hot...its only ok for creepy guys to stare if they're hot)

The best bit though has to be the two young girls, under 12 yrs old, abandoned by their parent/guardian and wearing their pjs....WHAT????!! First its freezing cold and second, um hello?!! Paedo alert!?! The librarian was really upset and wanted the police to take them home. This has really upset me, poor kids!!

    Bizarro

Ive no idea, the librarian put a call out for their dad who had brought them and left them there but he wasnt in the building! :wallbash:

One of the girls got upset and the other said she'd make sure they got home.....

What kind of parent goes and leaves two young kids alone like that?

Maybe he just forgot? Some parents do that.

My Dad once lost my brothers and I on a beach in the sand dunes because of a lack of communication. He thought we said we would meet him one place when we actually said somewhere else.

We then went to the ranger's cabin and told him we were lost. When asked to describe our family we said "Well our dad's a bit tubby and our stepmum's pregnant". They were mortified that the ranger was looking for, in my Dad's words, "two fat people".

It could have been something like that? I really hope it was

Hmmm I dont think he forgot-they were there for HOURS!!!

I also dont think the cute was looking at me like that because I looked like crap today. And funny you should bring up the local vs big library issue because our local library is better

Some years ago I worked at a library on a rough council estate in Nottingham (which shall remain nameless). The parents there ALL used to use the library as a place to dump their kids while they buggered off some-where else (pub, shops, etcetc). So this kind of behaviour was commonplace and kids were left there for hours and hours. The librarian was so used to it that it didn't faze her anymore and used it as her chance to increase the issue figures and get them reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a very high adult illiteracy rate in the area and even higher unemployment and social deprivation. I think the locals saw the library as a 'middle- class ' babysitting provider!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I.e. "The nice ladies in the library will look after you / keep an eye on you"!!!

So I don't think your experience is an isolated one unfortunately Amethyst.

Not just libraries that people use as free childcare, bookshops too-maybe people assume that anyone who works with books is like an unofficial teacher, and thus would love to spend time with someone else's offspring:warn:

On the PJ thing aaaaages ago a lady I know from your part of the world was telling me there was a big trend of mum's wearing pyjamas to walk their children to school, and one school banned them or something, perhaps the kids wearing jamas in public is an extension of that?
