What the Best Album Cover Artwork Ever?
Ramble alert!
Once upon a time, music came from round spinny black things called records. And they were big and beautiful and tactile and precious. And they were protected by beautiful, creative paper or cardboard that was sometimes good enough to put in frames on walls (and if you ever come to my house I can show you some beautiful ones) and if you looked inside the big paper/card envelopes there would be more beautiful pictures and witty writings and sometimes even extra pieces of paper with words to the songs so you could sing along to the shiny round black spinny things....then evil cds arrived in their tiny plastic cases that often fell apart simply by opening them and grown men would argue about the production on Brothers in Arms in pubs. And the artwork and extras diminished.....then horror of all horrors the iPod arrived and suddenly there was no beautiful art or witty writings with the digital downloads and all the people who had known such wonders did weep.....
IF YOU'RE BORED JUMP TO HERE:
If you were to do a photoshoot mimicing Mina Suvari's iconic American Beauty rosepetal nude, but lying on a bed of beautiful arty album covers and your 'bits' covered by 3 special album covers (the boys can pretend they have lots to cover with 3 in a row, whilst you can guess where the girls ones are) what album covers would you have to use because you think they're the best covers ever.
(I could have made this post one sentence couldn't I : what are your top album cover artworks? doh)

Ooh this has made me think...
I did 2 graphic design A Level projects on this so it shouldn't be this difficult.
Ok number 1) The Used- In Love and Death
Designed and drawn by the amazing Alex Pardee, so that automatically puts it up the top. I love the symbolism of the hanging heart. It's such a simple image and sums up so much.
2) My Chemical Romance- Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
This cover was designed by Mr Gerard Way himself. I love the image and the title of it "Demolition Lovers II" relates to my favourite song of theirs. It comes into that messed up concept I have of romance
I can't think of a third one that I really like

The cover for Joan As Police Woman's new album To Survive is beautiful, there's some really lovely photography and some nice art inside the card cover. The whole thing's put together really wonderfully (and I bought it on vinyl, so it's nice to look at!)
I've always been really fond OK GO's first album cover, and things like Revolver - The Beatles

Ooh I love the artwork on Revolver - The Beatles, I had it in one of my frames for a while. It replaced The Queen is Dead - The Smiths (which is currently my fav t-shirt) but I've now got I am the Phoenix - Judie Tzuke in the frame in front of me coz I think its rather poignant for my life at the mo

I love My Chemical Romance and especially their theatricality on stage - they put on a damn fine show. They seem to make every little detail right - the music, the lyrics, the videos, the artwork, the performance....even the t-shirts Though I know lots would disagree.

I agree! I agree! I agree! I'm a HUGE My Chemical Romance fan. I've seen them 10 times and it still isn't enough!
I know so many people don't like them. I do feel like there is a hint of "Everyone else hates them so I must too". People don't seem to realise how important they are to others. They really helped me a lot a few years ago when I was going through a really hard time.
Anyway, enough of that. I don't want to get into another MCR debate. Mainly because I'm so stubborn and defensive that I won't back down and it goes on and on and on..

My favourites:
Metallica's black album - minimalist excellence and a great album to boot.
Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson - not the slip cover, the actual cover over the CD, pure weird fetishy stuff that appeals to by bizarre aesthetic tastes.

Ah the Bay City Rollers...good times....and when the sun comes shining through, we'll know what to do. They weren't just popstars they were sages.

Love those and love the name Light n Shade....I used to drive my mates crazy when recording at uni by constantly insisting we could "improve the mix with a little of light and shade"
