Brilliant story Michelle, and in Cumbernauld of all sodding places! Do you remember those propaganda ads on the telly in the late 70's/ early 80's - "What's it called?" "NUMB AND CAULD!" Ah memories.
I'm a Glasgow lass through and through, but my late Great Auntie Mary lived in Abronhill. Well there's your tenuous link of the evening.

Or even "Cumernaud"! I lived at 72 Ash Road in Abronhill. Did you know that the bus drivers called Abronhill "The Ponderosa"? Coz it was so far out of the way from the main part of the town.
Yes, Cumbernauld, the Arm Pit of Scotland! If you ever get the chance to go to Corby in England, DON'T!! It is like being IN Cumbernauld again!! One third of the overspill from the Gorbals and some of the Garengad (where my stepfather comes from) were moved down to Corby and it was the same architect that designed both towns.
Abronhill was where I lost my virginity, in a 7 foot snow drift, in an underpass.........1975. My mother was furious when she found out the next day

Auntie Mary lived in.... Lilac ... something. It was definitely named after a flower of some sort (well, that narrows it down). I don't recall ever going anywhere near the "town centre" when we visited (so that proves how far out it was).
She was only angry cos she knew she'd have to buy you a new one cos you'd lost the old one in the snow!

I left the town in 1980 so the road must have been put in after that, OR it was called Lilac Way???
Nooooooo, she got angry coz her "little" boy went out and got a girlfreind and was shagging like a bunny and SHE did NOT like that coz it meant I was moving away from the "apron strings"
Actually, it was not that long after then that I moved in with the woman that became my first wife, now, that REALLY pissed her of coz I was then living with the "Whoor that stole ma wee boy away!".
Another snippet of useless info. The gang that roamed Cumbernauld in the 70's was called "The LEMO"................This stood for "Let Everyone Move Out". I much prefered The Mummies or The Cody from the Garengad. Seemed to me to be much more manly names for a bunch of sick yoboes.
