Post party blues
Hey guys...new to this, so apologies if am writing in wrong section etc...
Just wanted to ask the question..
I have just finished my debut performance last night and am quite frankly feeling like my own worst critic and definately have a case of post party blues...is this normal??

I think that's the curse of all artists - no matter what you create it's never good enough for you. Look at it this way if you were entirely satisfied with what you had done would you have any drive to explore, innovate and do more?

I think yes it absolutely is.
Think about it, you've spent weeks, if not months, hyping yourself up for the performance....and all this adrenilin has been pumping round your system to help you be your best - and suddenly it's all over.
And you probably felt euphoric when you came off stage...........but now you've suddenly not got to practise incessantly, sew that costume etc - it's over and you don't quite know what to do with yourself, and all the nervous energy overloaded and now your body and mind want a break
So I think post party blues are perfectly understandable
I haven't performed burlesque as such yet, but I can totally identify with what you're describing from when I used to sing and from organising big events or doing speeches
And I was at an event on Saturday night where there were one or two of their own worst critics, they'd been brilliant and the crowd cheered and whooped, but one of them at least couldn't bring self to believe this and a couple mentioned how they could have been better, instead of just relaxing and realising what great performances they had done
So yes, have a great big hug :hug::hug:
Wait a day or so and you'll start realising how fab you were getting up there for the first time, and remember all the lovely compliments other people paid youThe Russian Doll Lass - like Shrek's onion, but with sequins...

Miss Scarlet? To feel the way you do right after your first show is totally and perfectly normal.
And, as the lovely Tempest has already stated, now you do not have to do anything, you have done it all. The best thing you can do is look to your NEXT gig and start planning that

coming from a ballet (perfection is the only answer...) background kinda kills me sometimes. if i make more than 1 tiny mistake that nobody noticed, i get down on myself.
but the audience will usually be thoroughly entertained by something that you've worked hard to produce and won't notice any of the things that you feel dissatisfied with. and being onstage is so much fun anyway....
