There's something dictatorial about compulsory voting. Ironic, really...

Maybe - but then again is that we have gotten to the stage were we take democracy for granted ??

I've always voted, always will - even if I find the choice impossible because I think it would be the biggest dis-service for all those that have gone before me that didn't have the 'right' to vote

No right to vote is no choice. No right to choose is no vote.

Before the last general election I found a website that asked you a handful of questions regarding what you agreed with under certain headings (like crime and education) and then told you which party aligned most with your beliefs. I think I need to find that again!

Am hoping to use a new burlesque act to remind people to vote so it's reassuring to find this thread and realise that it's not just me who's worried about voter apathy.

If the Conservatives get in there will be a world of pain, but they will.

I'll be voting the green party as it's the lesser of three evils, just wish they'd change their name to somethng better.

Always be honest with your clients, if you aren't they'll have false expectations of you and there's nothing worse for business than a client who's been sold some magic beans. Even more so when all they wanted was their picture taken.

I'm voting Green assuming there's a representative in my area - there wasn't last time so I was stuck on who to vote for. They're definitely gaining more popularity recently which I'm quite happy about.

They caught my interest initially because they had a lot to say about what they were going to do, and why they were good, rather than spending their party political broadcast trashing the other parties. I'd actually not really seen that before - a lot of parties spend their time making the other lot sound terrible, and leaving you with no clue about their policies.

Some of their policies have sounded a little flaky in the past but I'd just love a newer party like that to get in x

Try giving this a try and see who you should vote for based on policies rather than personalities

Vote for Policies - Vote for policies, not personalities!

I feel completely out of the loop with the election as I rarely see a news report or ever buy newspapers anymore so I dont know whats going on half the time I just know that everytime theres an election I never believe any of the things they try to promise us with. And as someone who has been living off goverment benefits for a long time that comes from everyone elses hard earned money part of me keeps thinking I shouldn't really get a say in all this and just take what ever happens. I'm not putting anything into this country of any good, have very little skills in anything and spend 6 days a week alone so who am I to vote how it should be run?
But then I think of the kids growing up in my family back in the village I'm from and I want to make sure they get something good out of this country.

But that still doesn't make me like or agree with any of them. And childish as I am, everytime I see David Cameron I think hes some caricature from the Beano and can't take anything in he actually says.

I shall be voting with my feet -which will be firmly plonked in front of my sofa!
There is not a piece of paper you could slip between the 3 major parties.

    As evildrneil said: http://voteforpolicies.org.uk/

This has been working its way around several of my friends' livejournals. You pick which policies on various issues that you agree with and it tells you afterwards whose policy you picked, and who got your majority vote. The BNP and UKIP are really glaringly obvious by the way!

I came out mostly Green, and seemingly so did most of the sample who have taken the survey so far! Lots of people I know all seem to be opting for Green. If only this would actually translate into real votes at a real election - so many people say they like the Green party but they don't seem to win many seats! Maybe it's just to do with the sort of people I talk to or something.
