Blowing your own trumpet!
Ok, I've been a bit up and down in the last few weeks and as I'm now in a more positive frame of mind I thought it would be good to see if we can get a positive thread going where we can say what we are pleased about with ourselves - the Brits dont like to make a habit of 'blowing your own trumpet' but I say bugger it! Be proud!!
So ok, at the moment I am very pleased with myself for
- learning a new skill - corsetry
and Viva I promise I will cut that fabric lol - appearing in Devolution Magazine as their 'Burlesque Spotlight' interviewee - big thanks to Nickie there!
- Finding out I've inspired a few other 'larger' ladies, in turn it inspires me
- getting my new store website up and running, it may not be perfect as yet but its getting there

Things to blow my own trumpet about...
- I just got my first tattoo, and I love love love it
- I got a new job that I'm starting on Monday that's actually relevant to my degree
- I've finally nearly completed that corset I started over a year ago

I love this idea!
I'm going to blow my own trumpet because:
1. I just made a professional phone call, which is something I really panic about.
2. I've started making my own clothes. Not perfectly, but they are wearable. Including a skirt that I made with no pattern at all.
3. I got another 2i in an assignment this week.Snowflakes and Sparkles

Having always been told I 'wasn't worth educating' and 'couldn't possibly do' just about anything I thought I might try, I finally threw off the mental shackles, wrote my first business plan and took it to the bank last Friday.
They loved it. Yesterday the bank manager told me they were happy to go with it, I have been offered a grant from the European Social Fund and I'm hopefully getting the shop of my dreams.
Not bad for someone who wasn't a 'high flier'.
Could somebody pinch me, please? I still can't believe it...

2. putting together several acts on my own (and then finding classes LOL)and being accepted to perform in april at glasgow mob movers and shakers evening...
3.getting through 16 years of parenting pretty much unscathed and raising four lovely kids and a cracking stepdaughter...

Well when you put it like that I suppose I've managed to get through 20 years of parenting without too many nervous breakdowns...

Im proud of how far I've come over the past year. The many years before seemed to be like runnning on the spot... Then BANG i had a boom.
I often weep in joy and scream at strangers out the window "ITS BEEN A GOOD YEAR!"
ok. Maybe i don't. But it has been a great year!
So I probably should.

I'm pleased because I did a mock interview with the head of year at my Fine Art course at college. He was blown away by my work and he and another teacher who interviewed me agreed that I was one of the best artists in the year and did the best interview so far, and I could pretty much apply for any course at any art school I wanted.
I never think that I am "the best" at art and have seen some of my classmates do brilliant work so that was very positive indeed.
Getting into art schools is extremely competitive and something that worries me about my future so it's good that someone thinks I am in with a chance.

I'm reviving this thread as I'm sure many of us have things to be proud of and should let people know!!
For me its been a case of taking myself out of my comfort zone and learning to love what I look like - so my new act (In The Pink) is total opposite to my usual comedy/alternative routines
Next person? As Strange and unexpected as cherries in the snow
