    Post Hooping in Birmingham/Midlands Area

I've recently become hula hooping obsessed! I've taught myself a few things, but could really do with someone that knows what they are doing!
Does anyone know of any classes or anyone that would be up for showing me a trick or two?

    Thanks. x

I am a huge fan of hooping. I originally got in to it by attending a one off class on a hen weekend! And immediately went and purchased a hoop for myself.
I had this same dilemma once my hoop arrived, i knew the tricks from my lesson, but how could i progress!?
    Well...
    - a lot of gyms do lessons locally (the Virgin active chain apparently run classes )
    - but the main solution i found was youtube! There are some amazing tutorials on there. So i basically watched the tricks/moves i wanted to learn and then practised like mad, then learnt the next move and so on! Check it out.. there is so much on there. YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

    Have fun!

    xx

youtubes been really good for learning. thanks for linking me to the playlist.
I've had my new hoop just under 2 weeks and I've improved loads just by having that. tricks come so much easier! tho yesterday I got a little too enthusiastic and have given my hip quite a bruising!

Ok the important question - how big is your hoop?? I have one which is too small, was thinking of getting one from Argos which is 90cm, is that still too small??

I used to do hula hooping classes at Virgin in Derby but they've stopped doing them now......guess the fad wore off which is a shame as they were GREAT!!!! Some Virgin Active clubs might still offer the classes though but you would have to be a member to take part.

I would suggest buying a weighted hoop and giving it a go at home. That's what I will be doing now the classes have finished sob sob sob!!!

I'm 5'4" and I went for a 36" hoop which seems to be smaller than what websites have suggested. It comes up to my hip, I went smaller cause I was used to keeping up the kids size one (31") and havent got much space to practise. Bigger is meant to be easier, the weight in the proper ones really helps hold the pace of the hoop. it was a massive improvement from using a kids one, they are far too light, you have to wriggle like crazy to keep them up!

I need to brave it outside soon before I take out anymore light bulbs in my house!

Lol! Bruises are a hazard of the hobby unfortunately! When i started to get braver, i learnt how to make it go up my body and round my neck, then up my arm, and the amount of times i ended up with 'strangle like' bruises on my neck wasn't funny... people must of wondered what was going on

I would recommend a 36inch hoop if you're just learning, they are so much easier to hoop with, also make sure it is weighted as again is much better for learning with (mine is 2kg). I got it from an ebay seller, you can pick your own colours, weight, size etc and the seller is also very good for advice. Check out eBay UK Shop - cockahoop hula hoop: hula hoop, exercise, fitness

Let me know how you get on.
