    Default Madeleine de Milo?!

I know, upteenth name change, but what do you think of it?

I didn't really like that the meaning of the name Marion has a lot to do with suffering.

It was actually my boyfriend's idea to go with Madeleine, which made me happy, since it means that he's showing some involvement, instead of being mad at me for even considering taking my clothes of in public.

Preference? Madeleine or Marion? OR Madeline? Margot?

Any famous burlesque person already known by Madeleine?

    Meaning:

    Margot: Pearl

    Madeleine: girl from Magdala

Its a stage name rather than a personal name, so the actual meaning of it shouldn't worry you too much. Only you know if you can put up with a name even though the meaning or origin isn't exactly kittens and roses!

It seems like, as with most performers, you will get through a fair few names before you find one that you are happy with. People are still putting up suggestions on the other threads you have started, so it might be worth looking through those too, and putting each new suggestion up there instead?

I don't agree that the meaning isn't important, although obviously its a personal preference!

I think its nice for the name to have some meaning, especially if its going to be with you for a long time, and if you're a performer a stage name is quite a significant thing in your life. It is to me anyway! My name was given to me by my cousin when we were little, he was filming me dancing in too-big high heels in the garden and obviously thought Chevelle sounded like a dancers name. It was the first thing that came to me when I got into burlesque and was thinking of a name.

I prefer Madeline, I think it's pretty and it reminds me of that cute cartoon....

Don't rush into it though hun, take your time, you'll know when its right! You've got a year after all xxx

Oh, I didn't mean it like that at all. I wasn't belittling the reasons people choose their names at all. I understood that Madeline (i shall call her that for now) was talking about not liking the origins of the name itself, not about what it meant to her.

Well sorry to be a pain in the arse, but the name "Madeleine" is traditionally also associated with pain and suffering, in reference to the tears cried by Mary Magedlen.

(Coincidentally, I learned this from the film "Amelie")
