Novice at 39
Hello I am very new and perhaps a late starter at 39 years old but I am ready to embrace my inner Burlesque goddess bursting to get out..! Trouble is I need to find a recommended class . I am in East Surrey nr Kent close to London, so any advice is very much appreciated, I think MoB HQ is close to me but am unsure whether they do classes .?? I would like to think i could go into performing eventually but baby steps first..!
I am also working on finding a name CoCo Crystal is my accessories line I sell. I was toying with Honey Bombshell (being blonde etc etc)
Also I am a Nail Technician and run an academy teaching nails and various beauty services. I have read a few posts about Nail varnish etc and can be of help having worked in this field for 22 years!! I developed my own version of the Stilleto Nail which looks fabulous, and I am very busy with 40s varnish techniques think Ditas Nails Paint free Half moons. (self promoting I know but I think there is a real gap for Burlesque Nail services)
I hope to make a few friends learn lots and have fun along the way.
Kisses

Hi Coco, and welcome to MoB. But be warned.....this site is deliciously addictive!!!
Nooooooo......39 is most certainly NOT too old, I'm 37 and a latecomer to it all myself!!!
Names, there are quite a few 'Honeys' around. Maybe do a google / MoB search to see what comes up as already taken. I do like Coco though.

You go girl!!!!!! The MoB DVD is as good a place to start as any and you can buy it on here. You can learn the basics in the comfort of your own home before attempting a class . Watch lots of burlesque on youtube and scour this forum for events in your area.
We are a broad church on MoB.....all ages / sexes / shapes / sizes / persuasions (!) etc etc so I'm sure that in no time at all you will feel right at home. Enjoy!!!!!!

Hi CoCo
PM Gypsy Charms , she runs the London classes .
Pixie is right, there are a lot of Honeys around - including me!
- and Honey Lulu, Honey Moon....
Coco is a bit less common but there are definitely performers out there called Coco, I know of Coco Deville for starters.

You might want to consider having a name that stands out a bit more if you plan on performing . I'd also google any name you select quite heavily before using it to confirm it isn't already being used, especially with common burlesque names like "Honey" and "Bombshell"
To PM someone you can either select their name in one of their posts and select "Send a private message to..." from the drop-down list
or - click on MoB Mail on the left side of your screen and select Send A Mail from the list.
Not ditzy at all!

Hello Hun
Firstly, welcome to the wonderful realm of cabaret!
Tis much fun!
I've been performing burlesque and cabaret for about 3 years now and only recently changed my name. I started out as Zelma Du Noir but for many reasons (comperes unable to pronounce my name for one! granted tis a bit of a mouthful) the main fact was I felt that the name didn't really indicate my performance style. Which is very important since world of mouth is such a powerful publicity tool.
Try just having a good ole play with words that surround you and see what comes up eg from reading this thread the name Dita Ditzy popped in my head (from your nail technique plus your current status with the 'ere site, hehe )
So for now, I'd say just go with a name that you feel comfortable with and try and catch an essence of what your about. Also, as recommended above, google it see if it's in use and/or what it's linked with ( For me Coco Deville is a club in Hollywood infamous for stars becoming scandalously inebriated..which makes me chuckle)
Just remember, we all were beginners once, simply depends on you how far you're will to work towards your dreams, it will all come in the end! You get what you give..and all that jazz!
Good luck to you
Love love
