I usually 'skellington' my acts, i find i look so so stiff when rehearsing my every move to am assigned second, and when i'm actually performing i tend to feed alot off of the audience, so things just sort of come!!
I do write down what i havw in my mind, but i try to look natural too

the way i go about getting an act together is once i have chosen a song, i think about what it reflects and what the story to this song could be. then i think of a good beginning and how the story should end. the act in between i make up as i listen to the song.
i also take one part of the song at a time. ie. till the first chorus, till the second chorus and so on, and work on the moves until i have them locked down, then move on to the next part of the song. writing then down if they are a bit complicated definitely helps. also if you don't perform an act for a while you might forget bits and pieces of the choreo. having them written down, helps you remember later on.
have fun with it!

I asked my burlesque teacher this and her philosophy was to let the song guide you - usually the lyrics or the melody of the song intuitively suggest a choreo. Worked so far!

Dear all,
This has been a fascinating thread, genuinely interesting to read. Should I have performing inclinations (which I don't, really) I would imagine I'd be exactly the same as Fleur.

Hi hun,
What a great thread this has been to read. Really re-assuring for a newbie like me. I've not got a great memory so plenty of impro time will suit me well - I had thought this was a failing of mine but I'm getting the idea that maybe it's a bit creative and not all that bad after all :0) Good to hear that it's still OK if my routines are a bit different each time! lol! x
