Question Gotta find me some self esteem!

Heyloo all. I've posted before a year or two ago and just after that things took a tumble and i got very ill and everything has changed dramatically.

I'm now left too ill to work, having put on plenty of weight, and generally feeling like i've lost my youth at only 22. Good thing is, i've landed myself one hell of a boyfriend! Hes utterly amazing and incredibly encouraging i've been living with him for a year and 7 months now and life is so good. He knew i once was very into trying to mimic the burlesque styles [and failing] and wanting to go into burlesque, and we're seeing it on tv more and more, and i do really want to find myself via burlesque, and he obviously wants me to aswell!

I just don't know where to begin, i'm very much penniless and most clothes i pick up in primark or charity shops as we're living on one wage package while my benefits are processing. Its a long term illness which fluctuates in intensity, and i honestly think burlesque could do me the world of good.

So here i am again! That wasn't going to be an intro, but it turned into one, oops!

Where do i go from here guys, i am utterly clueless. I'm in Exeter in Devon!

I am so sorry to hear about your illness but i'm glad you have found a wonderful man. Have you tried looking through the forums to see if there are any free workshops that you could attend?

Hope things work out for you

Hi honey
I can give you some good news- the credits you get everytime you post can be traded in for DVD's and workshops. (James ,please correct me if I'm wrong)

You can also learn a lot from youtube sometimes (sometimes what not to do) as well as lot of hair and make up online tutorials on there.
and check out your local gumtree and paper for Burly lessons as they can sometimes be quite reasonable. Although the chances are they won't be geared towards people wanting to perform they can still work with getting you used to showing your body.

Check the library as well for books on burlesque (I requested Dita's book when I was starting to get into the vintage scene, penniless and wanted to read it, Cost 50p and found it very useful)

Also charity shops can be great for vintage dress patterns

Oo library, never thought of that! I've been watching a lot on youtube and i'm trying to spot familar names from this forum so i know a little more along the lines of the 'good stuff/bad stuff' pinpointing! Am going to play with my hair later with a tutorial i found!

No worries doll And just thought I'd mention - Freecycle. If you don't have a sewing machine they often pop up on there

I know where you're coming from Ratty, burlesque was kinda my saviour after my split from my ex and all that crap last year. I've pretty much taught myself to sew by jumping in at the deep end and ended up applying to and getting into Uni to study costume construction. However long story short, if you PM me your address I'm pretty sure I have some patterns hoarded away that you can have honey
