Hi I'm new on here and new to burlesque although I worked as striptease artist and pole dancer for a number of years in London. I just want to know how long your set should be. Do you dance for one or two songs, or should you be on stage for longer?
All advice much appreciated

My routines vary - the shortest is less than 3 mins, the longest is about 6mins. It depends on your act. Personally I prefer shorter routines as I think when something's too long, it gets boring - I saw a routine once where the performer used about 3 or 4 songs and only actually did a striptease during the last song and I know I was bored, I thinka few people in the audience were, especially since there wasn't a "storyline" with it - my routines all have a character or a story to them.
It's personal preference I suppose

Thanks for such a quick reply, I thought it would be good to get the benefit of those with experience, as I said earlier we used to do one song for each performance but sometimes stretch it out to two though that was a struggle towards the end lol. Many thanks Dani,
Ruby x.

My thoughts, summed up:

For a storyline routine, as long as it needs to be to tell the story in a clear way, get across everything to the audience etc., without having too much unnecessary length which might make it boring

For a non-storyline routine (fan dance, balloon pop, straight strip, etc.) long enough to tease but not long enough that it bores the audience with too much repetition - in my mind this is about four minutes max ...
