Default Photo Shoot Advice

I've had plenty of photo's taken during performances, and they usually come out quite well, I think because if you're un-aware of the camera you look more natural, but does anyone have any advice for photo shoots? What's the best way to pose? And what's the best way to look natural?

Any other advice would be most appreciated! I don't even really know where to begin with the questions!

When I've had shoots the photographers have given some direction because sometimes afaik its not about looking natural. If I posed in a certain way that one arm wouldn't be in the shot, the photographer would tell me to move it to a place where it would be, otherwise I would look a bit weird and lopsided.

I find it useful when there is a mirror in view when I'm trying to pose, so I can check my position & my facial expression. I have quite full lips so if I pout too much it looks really silly, so I have to hit exactly the right amount of pout, and just the right amount of smile.

I have some posing guides I could send to you if you're interested

get yourself in front of a mirror and practise practise practise (can be easier after a glass or two of wine!) try out different facial expression and poses to work out what suits your body and shows it off to its best! Also, if you think of something a bit naughty, i find it makes your eyes look a little bit more lively x

Thanks for your advice ladies! Really helpful. I feel a bit awkward in front of the mirror, but it definately makes me more aware of what looks good and what doesn't!

Yep. Practise practise practise. Look in some mags to get inspiration and try to replicate some of the best. Remeber that some of the most uncomfortable poses can actually look great on film and very natural. Sometimes performing your routine in front of a mirror very slowly can give you ideas too

And watch some americas next top model - sometimes you get great tips

Oh and violet - would you mind sending me the guide too? Have some more shoots coming up

I do the same thing! Haha it really is a very helpful show!

I also look in magazines and also at other people's profiles- not in a copy cat way but to see what works for different shapes. What works for a tall, slim girl might not for a short curvy one.

I can feel a bit self-concious at shoots at first. My most recent two were my most fun and produced the best photos, so just have fun. Don't worry about feeling silly as those are normally the best poses- otherwise you may look like you can't be bothered. As you get into it, and start having fun, you will relax and end up looking more natural.

Practice the "smiling with the eyes". This means that if you do not have a smile on your face, you don't look bland and dead-eyed. The mirror is your friend- for poses and expressions.

Just have fun and good luck

lol Glad someone else shares my taste for bad TV. Although I do prefer the Aussie one (the girls seem so much more inventive in being bitchy). The UK version does doesn't seem to keep me as interested.

I haven't seen any of the Australian one yet. I'll ask Mr C to download it for me.

This year's UK one was a bit bland, I thought.

I get so many tips from it though. Plus I get trashy entertainment into the bargain. It's one of the very few things I watch on tv.
