"Cherry Berlin also speaks German but I think she is English. She still may be able to help. She may have German friends who would be able to help?"
Hallo Julia! I spoke to a performer in the South of Germany who was trying to get a troup together... I think she was in Munich, but I could be wrong. Her name had Lily in it, but I can't remember it exactly... it might come to me soon... she's a member here, so hopefully she'll see this.

Hi Julia
I use a great way to teach the ladies in our classes to shimmy. First, you have to stand with your legs apart and bend your knees - this gives you a good solid base to help stop those unwanted hip shimmies! Then pretend you've got a pencil sticking out of your cleavage, and there's a giant blank canvas in front of you - you need to scribble on the blank canvas. Try it! It really works!
Good luck!

Hi there,
I might be late in responding to this but the trick with a should shimmy is to alternate between should blades. Try slowly pushing each shoulder forward and back in an alternate motion and then speed up until you get a nice shimmering movement.
Good luck!

This thread is great! It's really helped me because I thought I was the only one who couldn't do this. I thought I was silly for wanting to try burlesque dancing when I couldn't even shimmy, but it's clearly something that is more tricky than it looks!
Viva Misadventure: Thanks for that tip. I really think it'll do the trick!

Aaw bless you!
Don't worry- there are no rules to burlesque. If you find you can't do something and you really really aren't having any luck with practising, then don't do it. No problem
