Default music matters

Hi girls and boys,

Sorry to be asking another question so soon but does anyone have any advise names of any music I can download for routines? I know alot depends on the act but I really like big band and when I type in stuff like that I seem to always get "the stripper" and "diamonds are a girls best friend" while they are great I was wondering if anyone could name some acts, names of singers or groups that I could listen to.

v gratefull as always xxx

Try these for starters, best bet is to find an artist you like and see what other people who liked it, bought, amazon is quite good for this.

Burlesque Tribute to Christine Aguilera
Ruth Brown
Dinah Washington
Glen Miller
Marylin Monroe
Etta James

Hi Kittie, Have a listen to some music by the likes of:

Marilyn Monroe, Peggy Lee, Julie London, Buddy Holly, Glenn Miller, The Puppini Sisters

Not all of there music will be of use to you but they are some of the artists I like to listen to.

Hope that helps

xx

Try Brian Sezter and his Orchestra? They're really good. Jumpin' East Of Java is excellent, quite quick thought.

If I hear another burlesque routine to "The Stripper", I'm gonna scream! :-D

What music you pick depends on the act you want to put together - there are hundreds of jazz, big band, swing, doo-wop, rockabilly, stripbeat, vegas grind, lounge, blues and country songs that work incredibly as burly backbeats, and it's more than possible to find modern stuff that works too. It all depends on what kind of piece you want to put together.

My CD box for burly DJing spans songs from the 1890s all the way through to things released 6 months ago (albeit often 'retro' sounding) and contains all the genres above and more. What song you pick depends on the mood you want to create (or re-create), the character you want to present on stage and the era you want to evoke. Are we talking late 19th century? 20s? 30s? 40s? 50s? Cheeky? Sexy? Sultry? Funny? Serious? Ironic? Silly? Burlesque is not just one straight-forward thing...
