I have a couple of questions that I cnt seem to find help for anywher, but this forum has never let me down! I hope!
My 1st question is How do start to get ideas about dance and cheoriograph a routine, I have a few ideas for acts and costumes but finding moves to flow seems hard,
2nd is- does any one know of any ballet classes in merseyside for adult begginers? I need to build up strenth and balance of movement.
Anyways, all advise as always im so gratfull for!

2 I can't help you with, but the best advice I can give for 1 is just get up and do it. Put your music on and prat about, improvise, see what moves suggest themselves to particular bits of the music. If you have a storyline then follow that and some of it should pretty much write itself, if you know that certain moves or expressions must be put in at certain points. Choreography is hard, it's really hard if you have no experience at it or are just no good at doing it (like me), and it's where the hard work of burlesque comes is. Costuming, music choosing, etc., is all good fun, but the choreography is what makes your routine unique and sets it apart from anyone else's, so you need to be prepared to work at it, and it will probably be difficult. It takes me on average an hour to choreography 30 seconds of dance, and then several hours to get those moves to a performance-worthy level. But I promise you, if I can do it, you can!

Hi there,
I think fleurs advise is sound, start with putting some music on that you really love and just dance to it. My very first performance was completley ad hoc I just out the music on, sorted an outfit out and did it, althought I was extremely nervous to start with, however it was to a small audience.
Choregraphing routines is very difficult particulary if you have no experience. Practice, practice, practice and you will find things easier the more routines you do, there are loads of burlesque clips on you tube and also watch other performers.
I also find getting feedback from close friends very helpful, you can use them for idea's on moves and what does & doesn't look good, several brains are always better than one when brainstorming for new idea's.
I also find camcording your performances(while at home) helps to show you what you look like and decide where you need to improve - you are always your worst critic.
A good place to start is definatley a dvd to show you some basic moves.
With regard to your second query, i found a local dance school that does ballet classes for adults via google search.
Hope this helps

Don't know about music, I struggle with that myself! But I know Merseyside Dance Initiative runs adult classes, and if you can travel there's one in Chester as well, although I think they all only run during school-term time. There's adult classes that run at a regular school on Menlove Avenue - I think the dance school is something like DanceWorks?
Put it into google and see what you get
