School of Glamour
Hello Ladies!
The School of G'lamour Manchester is planned for 24th August.
if you are interested deposits need to start coming in!
Below is a reminder of the class content!
My style of teaching follows the development of burlesque/showgirl movement from 17th century court manners and ballet (which was a direct development from the latter) to showgirl movement focusing on professional technique, polish and stagecraft as well as tracing the development of style. This school of thought is a progression of my post grad work -I undertook a considerable amount of original research on primary source material at the British Library and tested it out with members of Matthew Bourne's company AMP. The resulting work was fascinating and illuminating.
Following my degree, MA and PGCE (I am a qualified teacher) I taught movement, period manners and style, acting technique, directing and stage craft for BA and MA students at many of London's top drama schools including Central, Rose Bruford, Mountview and Drama Studio London. I have also lectured in theatre history, cultural studies and semiotics in many of the same colleges as well as being Cultural Studies lecturer on the Performing Arts BA at London College of Fashion for the past 8 years.
I have recently been approached by a major literary agency to write the book upon which I am presently labouring!
To this end the class is designed to link theory with practice and focuses on technique, style and stagecraft pegged to an understanding of the art form and rather than the 'step to the right and shimmy to left' school of thought.
Drawing on disciplines as diverse as yoga, ballet, period manners and acting technique
my aim is to enable all students to work at their own level of ability and sophistication. and to have a fun and informative experience.
All my best
Gwendoline
