Question Very nervous but excited too

Hi there all, I am very new to this site and very new to the burlesque scene. Although I have been interested in burlesque for a few years this is me just plucking up the courage to do something about it!!!!!

The reason why I am so interested in burlesque is the whole confidence boosting and gaining self belief. (In which I have barely none of!)
I am hoping to take part in a workshop in september in glasgow. So I have now until then to gain enough confidence to actually go!

My question really is how do I do this?

Thanks in advance

Hi Nat,

Lovely to hear from an enthusiastic new-comer!

For me, confidence is all about accepting who you are, what body you are in and most importantly, being proud of it.

I tried to add more to this, but it sounded like a rant and risked alienating others!

Is there any area in particular that you're feeling nervous about? Letting yourself go infront of others? Revealing parts of your body? General fear of looking like a fool?!

I can assure you that I've heard nothing but glowing reports of burlesque classes. Burlesque performance is new to EVERYONE there, no-one's there to judge you, and everyone's there to have a good time! I hear that attendees all tend to relax when it clicks that they're all in the same boat

well all i can think to say is, everyone has somethiing they dont lke about them selves, but the thing u should get is, no matter what other girl is in the room weather she be skinner or taller or have huge boobs or whatever it is, when your on stage people are watching YOU not them.
and the things you dont like about you, are things you notice but other probabaly dont, you just focus on them.
honestly, in just as bad but u know what, not once has anyone said to me "you were good but i couldnt stop looking at htose faided strech marks on your hips" or "yeah you were ok but not as skinny as some", generally the reaction is "wooooo! "

so hold your head up hig, there isno one perfect woman and there is no one type men like only, so go out there wiggle all you want and have fun, cause the fun is the most important thing.

Don't know who your going to, But if you lucky enough to be attending a mob workshop with Viva Misadventure you'll be in safe hands.

Work shops aren't scary there a day of girly fun.
I promise you, there is nothing to worry about, a few people in the class maybe feeling the same as you. so don't worry. xxx

I would completely recommend any kind of burlesque classes or workshop!

My experience has been that everyone is usually just as nervous as you are (the super-confident ones are already out there on stage!) but by the end of about an hour, just as Beatrix says everyone relaxes and really gets into it.

I delayed doing burlesque classes for ages because I thought you had to be a trained dancer (i.e. ballet, jazz, modern etc) to be any good at it, as I'd heard that lots of pro burlesque dancers come from a dancer background. What I've learnt is that it doesn't matter at all what background you come from, what matters is what you put into it.

I've found burlesque classes to be totally inspiring and a real confidence boost, plus very supportive - both from teachers and attendees! Best thing I've ever done for myself. Have fun and let us know how you get on!

Honey

Hi Nat,

Is that the Club Noir class? My bestest friend Scarlett will be going to the same class, and no doubt I'll be chumming her through, so we might see you there. She's quite new too, she just did her 5th performance on Sunday, so you'll be in good company.

I've heard only good things about the burlesque classes on offer. Hopefully chat to you before then, otherwise, see you in September!
