Smile Newbie Music Help!

Okay, so I'm totally new to all this, but I'm completely in love and inspired

The only thing I'm having trouble with is music. I have loads of ideas and can pretty much work out everything except what music to use, so that it will fit with the themes I'm working on, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice?

The music I want needs to fit:

* an underwater theme
* a sexy secretary/librarian
* music that starts slow or sleepy then builds up to something with a bit of strut!
* something mysterious and sexy, like a James Bond theme
* a maid/waitress act

If anyone has any ideas for any of these, I'd be very grateful

Are you looking for more traditional-sounding stuff or modern? What kind of tempo?

I think more traditional sounding stuff, and mostly uptempo apart from one which I want to start slow and sleepy and build up to something with a bit more oomph

Try these:

Underwater
Underwater: Smoke City - Underwater Love (slow but sexy)
Beatles - Octupuses Garden (silly, but good to act out)

Secretary
Kikki Daniellson - Working Nine to Five - slower and groovier than the dolly parton version)

Starts slow
Burlesque Tribute to Christina Aguilera - Beautiful (jazzy big band version that builds up)

If I think of any more I'll post them up

Ooh, I found out today that there are a few mermaid-themed acts out there so I'm going to concentrate on the other ones for the time being. Ah well.

I wouldn't worry about finding out there are other mermaid acts going on. It's really hard not to overlap but there are so many different ways to interpret a theme! I do an act where I made a giant televison with a tracing-paper screen where I crawl out of it all creepily like the girl in "The Ring" film before stripping in a more conventional burlesque manner. I've done the routine twice now and was just about to put it up on youtube but then I saw that someone else had done this theme too but in a very different way! I was still gutted, I thought it was completely origional - I had googled the idea and everything but nothing had appeared. It really is difficult but good luck with it,
xx

That is terrifying ... and yet oddly intriguing!

I've seen the video of Lala Vulvaria's Ring-themed act on youtube too. I remember thinking it was really original at the time...but still, there being two takes (that we know of!) on the same theme is still pretty original when you consider how many different acts there are of a lot of themes out there, especially when a lot of those acts still manage to be pretty original in the way they're done. I'd love to see how you did yours. Did you put it up on Youtube in the end?

what about starting with something all floaty to Saint Saens Aquarium and then kicking off into Bobby Darin - Somewhere beyond the Sea, if you want a uptempo but classy number that builds nicely. (I'm sure you could do something with this transforming yourself from a sea-bound creature into a burlesque beauty - no more sailing)

You don't have to be a mermaid, you could be an angel fish or octopus, I'd love to see a scuba diver burlesque

or you could have tons of cheesecakey fun withBobbing Along the Bottom of the Beautiful Briny Sea I picture some great moves and fun to this
