Any chance? (basic question)
I don't know if this goes here at all, if not move it.
But:
With all the majorly different ways of entertaining.
What are the chances of an old school routine working?
Old school Burlesque/ Semi-Burlesque routines like:
Josephine Baker
or more like
Mae West
Is there any room for saloon singing burlesque I suppose would be the question?
What can the word "burlesque" cover? Its sucha wide term.
I have an idea. But I want to know your opinions.

I've been to a few different shows in Leeds & Manchester, and most of them have featured a singer. Develop an act and ask around, promoters are usually open to anything that will enhance their audience's experience.

I believe Ruby Blues already performs a tribute to Josephine Baker's banana dance...
There's plenty of scope for traditional British burlesque - see Kittie Klaw or Lord Dashwood for example!

Oh goodness, I love Josephine Baker ---positively ADORE her. And everybody should!!! lol. So yea, work whatever ya want into your routine. Think of it like any other form of art: whatever rules it has to define it are there to be bent or broken. Done properly (well-rehearsed, well-structured, confidently performed), anything can be entertaining and thrown into a particular kind of routine like burlesque. It'll be different, but sometimes people enjoy a switch-up of what they're used to.
Be courageous, go with it, and let us know how it goes!!!!!!

My goodness, there are certainly no limitations... Check Burlesque on YouTube just to see some of the great examples of more traditional Vaudeville style shows! I'm working on one now with jugglers, and I make balloon animals and play accordian during my acts, so no issue, for sure! GO FOR IT!

I posted a couple of weeks ago asking about traditional burlesque. Its so interesting and entertaining in a different way from other acts. I like being made to giggle when I'm watching a performance and clever scenarios built into a routine are more enjoyable than straight stripping.

Betty Boop?
Does anyone remember while perusing youtube seeing burlesque artists dressing up as say betty boop and singing "I Wanna Be Loved By You"? I remember seeing it but can't find it anymore!

I completely agree! In fact the more things you can do the better you can make your routines as you'll have scope to use a wide range of skills xxx

Lux la Croix (who is just fantastic) did a Josephine Baker tribute for her entry to Best Newcomer at Miss Exotic World a few years ago and it was very received in the States at least (check out her myspace pics for what routine won her 1st runner up in MEW this year!! Another tribute, but not one that fits with this thread lol)
Here's a short film about it with some clips of the performance: Lux la Croix - the newcomer This film is also worth watching for my other idols Renea le Roux, and check out Satan's Angel shaking her stuff - I wish my mum (or most of your grandmas) was as a cool as that!
And as for the Mae West sort of thing, check out again Renea le Roux and of course Dita Von Teese loves Mae West and it shows.
