Seriously Pissed Off And Request For Information
Does anybody have any up to date contact details for Venuss Envy?
I had arranged that she would teach her burlesque for beginners workshop to the members of my uni theatre studies group. She wanted to charge thirty pounds per person with a minimum of ten people before she would teach the class. Getting the people and the money together wasn't hard at all and I actually managed to get seventeen people to pay the cash.
That was sometime in November.
The first date we arranged was cancelled by Venuss at the last minute because she claimed to be in Australia. Because of the lateness of the cancellation, I lost the deposit on the dance studio in London. However she assured me that she would be back 'sometime in January' and advised me to book the studio again for the beginning of Feb.
Obviously I did this, even though it meant that I was now paying out of my own money as I was now seventy-five pounds down.
Since I rebooked the studio, she has not replied to any of her email or myspace messages and because of this I've had to cancel the studio yet again. Out of the original five hundred odd pounds that I had at the beginning, I am now left with roughly 350 and am now have to pay everyone back their cash. Luckily for me, I was sensible enough not to spend any of the money I was given in good faith, however I'm still a hundred and fifty pounds down which might not seem like much, but I'm only a student and I'm losing sleep about how I'm going to repay my friends. Most of them have been very understanding, but a small minority of them are now pissed off with me and are saying that it's all my fault that things fell through on two different occasions.
I'm so upset because all I was trying to do was to have a bit of a laugh and try something fun, but it's turned into the exact opposite.
Venuss Envy, if you are reading this, I'd like to say that not only are you a total embarrassment to teachers everywhere, but your lack of even so much as an apology has shown he the type of person that you are. I suppose that the one good thing to come out of all this is that I never paid you up front as the money would probably have disappeared too.

what a let down and to be ignored is what makes matters worse. I know the feeling when you just want to introduce some friends to something new then you feel like you have let ppl down (even though its not your fault). I hope you manage to track/speak to her regarding the situation she needs to address it! keep your chin up hun

That sucks honey sending love your way I'm not sure if this is still the case but, not so long ago the MOB (i.e here) was offering to teach you burlesque in the comfort of your own home. There is no reason why this can not be in a dance studio and for ten people+. Plus it's a flat fee so you can split that 10 ways plus the cost of the studio of course and perhaps break even and make everyone happy.
The orginal thread is located here http://www.ministryofburlesque.com/l...stitute-2.html
It does say to check out the MOB Boutique for details so maybe a good place to start.
I hope this has been helpful as a light at the end of the tunnel.

If it's the same Venus Envy, she hasn't logged onto myspace since december, so maybe she has been genuinely held up?

Yap, can't help with the Venus Envy thing but drop James a line and he may be able to rescue. According to the boutique, private tuition for ten people comes in at £320 so you're at least heading on the right lines. Is there not a different venue you could use at the university that would be free or vastly subsidised if you're the theatre studies group?
I know you're annoyed but I don't know Ms Envy, and she's not here to defend herself so would rather be constructive in helping you fix this for your friends and your pocket

When it comes to money I take a very dim view of any company or professional who abuses their customers. It is in the best interests of the company and/or teacher to make sure that customers are happy and not out of pocket , in this case you have lost money repeatedly due to what appears to be a shoddy work ethic. I realise that Venuss Envy may have real personal issues, but you at least deserve some recompense if you have been stung a second time.
If you wish to pursue this further and have no joy contacting Venuss, may I suggest you contact the woman who runs workshops with her, Ruby Rose. Said lady can be contacted via e-mail at thebwi@hotmail.co.uk or you could try using the BWI forum.
I'm not sure how the Ministry of Burlesque can help you; Venuss Envy and the MoB parted ways nearly a year ago. But I shall wish you luck sorting out your problems.

Just to be clear I didn't mean that MOB would help get Venuss 'sorted'. I meant that with the money you have left they may be able to help you arrange another workshop via them. I know if I'd tried twice to organise something and it fell through, even if I'd got in touch with the person again I'd be loathe to organise a third date

As Gehenna has said, we parted company with Ms Envy nearly a year ago under extremely unpleasant circumstances where we were sorely let down and disappointed by her attitude and behaviour.
Since parting company (and we were the first organisation to work with her on burlesque workshops), we've been alarmed, but not surprised to be contacted by a series of would-be customers, studios and promotional partners who have all been let down by Venuss Envy in various ways. These parties have contacted us, like you, looking for contact details, clarification and advice on what to do when left in the lurch.
In fact, you happen to be the second student group to contact us within a week under pretty much the same circumstances as yourself. If you contact me by PM, I will happily give you the names and contact details of the other people who have suffered a similar fate. I think you all have quite a bit to talk about!
Just for the record, the term 'Burlesque For Beginners' is an MoB product - again Ms Envy has apparently been using this name - and the course structure that we created - to promote her own workshops.
Anyway, if you also give me your address, I'll pop one of our DVDs into the post for you and maybe you and some of your friends can have a fun night in front of the TV. If you then wish to book a private workshop, I'm sure that we can come to some arrangement which doesn't leave you out of pocket in any way whatsoever.

Aww! This just gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. It's so nice to see that generosity and kindness
still exist. What a gent you are, James!

:-) Bizarrely enough, At this very moment I'm currently working on the script for the pilot episode of our Victorian Values TV show and I'm in the middle of writing dialogue between an Ebeneezer Scrooge type character and a very down-at-heel worker who is being exploited for material gain!
Luckily it's a lot more amusing than it sounds!
