HAHAHA Trust polestars to do something like this lol

I do the can-can. It is high impacts energetic dance. Some people perform the basic moves...some people perform it with acrobitc moves, like walkovers, cartwheels,....

No can-can group is the same, they all have their own little routine.

Can can is all about timing (all dance forms are lol)
A) with music
B) with fellow dancers

I suggest you start ballet as ballet is the foundation for most dance forms. It teaches you posture for high kicks...and remeber can-can is in heels!!!!

Default CanCan Classes

Hello all,
It was common back in the day to see men in the CanCan line up, often in a tutu.

I'm a member of CanBootyCan (Untitled Document) and have been high kicking for years with this line up of some 15 girls. The interest in cancan has soared immensely recently.
It really is a very high energy dance with a habit of stretching muscles you weren't sure were there in the first place!
Warm up Warm up Warm up! Practice and play with your flexibility throughout your day. Maybe not kicking lampshades but be aware and extend your muscles, Sit up straight
A cancan class shouldn't be limited to those with the legs of giraffes, there's many roles in the line up, whooping, posing and rarring are key elements too! It can be graceful and you may find ballet helps.

I'm holding a 6 week class in St Albans starting at the end of May, I will also be holding classes in Brighton. If there is interest in London, I can certainly run more classes there, previous ones were a Time Out favourite.
You can contact me at missfountain@gmail.com

Best of luck girls!

Talking Learning the Cancan

Greetings:

I have noticed that in London there are a few really good can-can troupes, such as the formentioned Cancan Boheme, Les Ooh La las (Who I believe is the same troupe) and there is a new troupe with some excellent choreography called the Delectable Dancing Dollies They are at: http://www.cancanacise.com. They have a video and their can-can performance is VERY good.

The outrageous Red Hot Frilly Kickers is other outfit and they are really wild, crazy and fun loving. They have plans to attend the New York Burlesque Festival, if they are accepted.

Gypsy Charms and Viva Misadventure are VERY cute ladies and VERY talented dancers. I hope I can get a chance to meet them one day. They have a can-can class and they seem to be the hot can-can act, right now.

The United States, however is lacking sadly in can-can troupes. Not only in talent, but in social graces.
Le Cancan Bijou only performs at the San Francisco Dickens Festival at Christmas. The majority of their dancers are in their early 40s and their head people are not gracious to the public in general.

Madame Gigi's Outrageous French Can-Can Dancers from Ohio are anything but outrageous. The majority of the dancers are way overweight (others have let them know this on You Tube and they didn't react very well) and their kicking skills are just not together. They are cordial, but they never let anybody get close. Some have told me that some dancers have chips on their shoulders especially Gigi herself, which is too bad.

Panty Raid of Nashville, Tennessee has a pretty good can-can routine and their bread and butter is really good burlesque numbers. Lulu of the troupe is a charmer, very sweet.

The Flordigan Can-Can Girls of Seattle are not bad but they only perform once a year themselves at the Moisture Festival and their choreographers are in their mid-fifties. Rhonda Sable runs the troupe, but they do not have a website, which I don't understand.
But does age really matter? Yes, it does if you want a lot of energy. You don't want girls wheezing after a semi-active routine.

In Seattle, it's the Atomic Bombshells, who have an excellent can-can. The three main can-can-ers (they have more dancers) are Miss Indigo Blue, Lucky Penny and Babette Lafave. (Lucky Penny enjoys life, let's put it that way.) And most of you have heard of Miss Indigo and her talents.

In Canada, two can-can troupes stand out. Sweet Soul Burlesque of Vancouver not only do a great can-can, but one of the sexiest, too. They are nice, nice ladies. Little Miss Risk is the knockout of the troupe, but they are all good lookers.

In Toronto, it's The Saucy Tarts, who perform a "Queen Street Can-Can" and use music that you wouldn't think of associating with can-can. They, too, are darlings.

Cancan Boheme and the Dollies have can-can exercise programs for the ladies which is a great idea. In the states, only Bombshell Betty of San Francisco offers a can-can routine exercise.
Ophelia Coeur de Noir offers the course, a fun-loving burlesque performer.
Bombshell Betty presents - Can-Can!

But how can you really learn the can-can? May I suggest one of Paris' leading can-can choreographers and historians of the dance, Claire Duport. She is a former can-can dancer with the Follies Bergere.
She was the choreographer of the movie, "Latrec," and her troupe le Clairette Cancan, have marveled all for many years. It is one of the best!

Any questions?
