Wow that's amazing...

Its really admirable that burlesque runs on its own steam and the performers love for what they do. I guess that means that to be in the profession you need to be pretty committed to it.

ooh, my fans arrive next week, I'm so excited!!! then I need to try and put them together... Has anyone done this? The website says they take an hour each to put together, but in my time, that probably means three!!

xx

Are they Ostrich.com? I did mine in about 30 the pair I recall! It depends how fast you are at twisting wire and how hard your hands you are...

On the other subject: I think it also depends on what type of Burlesque you perform... Obviously the biggest sources of Burlesque income are in corporate dos and residencies: both of which require a more 'American' approach... Although my most popular act is very female orientated, I would not really be able to perform some of my favourite acts for these unless it's the specific theme.
So if you want to make it your full-time occupation you have to be prepared to compromise, like any other job. Some people just don't want their envelopes to be pushed, and sadly you can't make them ...
Not 100% sure what I'm trying to say, other than that if you're making a commitment to Burlesque as a job, you can't always perform it to your complete artistic satisfaction (though I suppose it depends on your style I suppose!) in front of a fabulous and supportive audience!

Which is also one of my top tips for performers: half of the skill is getting and keeping the audience. Which is very, very hard if they have never seen Burlesque before and they have no idea how to react.

Anyway, rambling... off to get my passport photo done now and dreading it!

Erm, yes they are. Well it looks like I know what I'll be doing this weekend!!!

Any tips on speeding it up a bit? I'm itching to start twirling around my bedroom as soon as possible!

my black & white fans are from ostrich.com and have lasted me a good year but have now ordered from beatrix von bourbon... (i wanted new colours and just couldn't be arsed with the wires! - once was fine but not again!)

i agree with roxi and also with vicky; most of the 'money' in the UK comes from corporate and unless you're lucky and your favourite artform is really mainstream, a lot of the time you have to give in and do the more audience friendly acts. Corporate is not a place to experiement

I went to a brilliant debate about corporate whoring vs artistic expression and i'm convinced corporate is a necessary evil. If I do one corporate gig, I can spend the rest of that month developing less lucrative but more interesting acts; undertake more teaching work and mainly relax about the rent.

Have the very best of fun working out what you would like to do

Anyone got any advice on how to get into doing corporate work? I'm sure there must be opportunities for those of us in the sticks! Can someone who knows their stuff possibly PM me?

I got them yesterday! One is now completed... It did take 4 hours though. I think I'll have to give my fingers a break before tackling the next one. xxxx
