I have been performing for a year. As far as i know, i'm the first and only burlesque performer in my city.
I was approached by these women who run a very elegant studio and they asked me to teach Burlesque there, and i agreed.
I am confident i know what burlesque is all about, and what i want women to take away from my class is confidence and a sense of fun. Because it is so new to this city, and it is a beginner class, i think it should be simple, the style will be slow and simple movements and poses like that of the 1920's-1940's. It is hard to do burlesque without some costume or props, so in the price of the 6 week course a pair of nipple tassels and gloves are included, students are expected to bring their own stocking and garter belt and that is what we will work with. Then they get to take home their outfits, which they can build on as classes progress.
What i'm worried about is that the movements may be too simple and people will get bored. They might not understand that its not really a serious dance class, it's meant to be fun and focus on the 'character; you become as well.
Does anyone have any advice on a class plan or what i should expect. I have taught theater before, but not burlesque.
Any advice would be really helpfull. Thanks all!
