Newbie to Burlesque / MOB
Hi Everyone!
According to your board I am currently your newest member... my name is Malcolm, I am 40, married white male in Cambridge... respectable Driving Instructor (really!) in the daytime and DJ in the night time. (Plus I'm a biker and ride a Harley, so not THAT respectable...)
I run my own mobile roadshow / disco, mostly high end / black tie work... also I specialise in rock / alternative events, and regularly DJ at rock clubs here in Cambridge.
From 2002 - 05, myself and a couple of mates ran a night club called Octaine - this was a multi-genre (i.e. crossover) night - until we ran out of money, basically. But recently I have noticed the rise of Burlesque - also with a crossover / multi-genre musical menu... so I am keen to learn more of this, and even to move into DJing such events.
Putting my money where my mouth is - we are doing our own Burlesque night in Cambridge in October, so I will be getting myself on here regularly in order to make it as good as I can! I'll leave it there for now, as first posts to advertise your own brand new club night are so vulgar...

Heya and welcome! I was in Cambridge not so long ago, you have an abnormal number of bikes there. I also used to DJ and run a night called Rocksteady, I think you have to have a passion for music, dance or costume but this is such a friendly and supportive community here that you should meet all the people and get all the inspiration you need. I hope you make a success of burlesque in Cambridge!

Terrifyingly small world. About six years ago a certain Andy D asked the readership of his blog for suitable names for a club night he and a few other miscreants were planning on throwing together in Cambridge, and I suggested "Octane". I take no responsibility for the "I".
There's a slim chance we've met through a certain global fan organisation whose name I shall not speak. I'm practically new as well, re: MoB, and have been largely lurking until now. Uh, hello.

I was something of a latecomer to Octaine... It always had its' hardcore fans but was never destined to make money, and then the night club (The Kambar, for all you Cambridge exiles) started charging us full money, which emptied the coffers fairly quickly.
However Andy is my co-conspirator in the new venture in October! We are once again running up the Octaine banner - except this time it's a leather & rubber flag...
