    Default New at burlesque

    HI

I really want to be a burlesque performer. Can anyone give me some tips?
Is it better to be in a troupe or not ? How do you start performing if you decide not to join a troupe ?

I have a few songs already and have looked at some performances, but I would still like names of more performances and artists to look at ,as well as songs?
I'm looking for a spesific artist of a song ,I could find the name but not the song. It's called 'love potion #9' (I saw it on a performance by Miss Orchid Mei ). All I seem to find are similar songs, but with lyrics.
Miss Orchid Mei performance : [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9EJOiEqzbA]YouTube - Burlesque as it was - Miss Orchid Mei [/ame]

And then lastly ,I used to do ballet ( I did it for 6 years in primary school) and I'm doing contemporary dance classes . I want to know if it is really nessicary to have former dancing experience for Burlesque ?

    Hello lovely!
It might be an idea to go to a couple of workshops or classes as there you'll not only get the benefit of meeting girls in a similar position to yourself (who knows, you may even form a troupe with some of them!!) but you'll also be able to ask the person taking the class (hopefully someone with quite a bit of experience in performing , etc, as there are some classes run by people with no experience - believe it or not!) some tips on how they got into it. Some workshops or classes run over a course with a performance at the end so you can get some experience of being on stage.

It is not vital to have dance training, some of the best performers don't have a dance background, but it does help with choreography and mapping out the routine. I would say the ability to be entertaining, original and have a strong stage presence is vital.

Re songs - I tend to go for songs that not that many performers are using as it adds a uniqueness to your performance - and thinking outside the box is always a good idea to set yourself aside from other performers and make yourself appealing to promoters.

    Good luck!

    X
