Unhappy What age should I be to actually start performing.

Hi, my name is Tilly, and im 15, though 16 in a couple of months.
I LOVE burlesque and iv'e come up with heaps of routines.
Im just wondering what age would be ideal for me to perform without getting myself and other people around me into some serious troubble?
    Thank's

    Hi there Tilly,

There have been a few threads about this topic in the past, if you try the 'search' function at the top right of the page you should be able to find them.

Generally though, if you are in the UK you will need to wait untill you are 18. In my experience , many classes /workshops won't accept you if you are under that age, and since most events take place in licnced premeses you probably won't be able to take bookings, not to mention all of the issues with Public Liability Insurance, etc with being under 18.

Some performers do wait and spend their time gaining skills and getting ahead in other forms of dance , drama, theatre, perfprmance art, costum miking etc.

    hello,
have you thought of joining belly dancing classes , circus skills workshops, am-dram societies.....you have a good 3 yrs to your advantage to build up exellent burlesque "alternate" techniques....if you do these now, in three years time you could be amazing!!!!

Heya honey, I've liked burlesque since I was a similar age to yourself so I understand your been keen to do it too. However there are age restrictions on most venues so you don't want to get anyone in trouble or be disappointed that you can't get bookings .

I'm 19 now and I'm just getting into the performing side of burly (after a few years of sneaking into clubs to see people perform). It is wonderful but I think it is quite an adult area in some respects. I don't mean to sound in any way patronising of your age but I think its something that is very heavily influenced by how you look and your body and you don't want any unnessicary pressure in that way at your age.

Do some dance courses and sewing courses as that will definately help then you'll be well armed for when you do start performing when you're 18.

    Good luck honey!
