mmmmm circus space training rooms.... mmmm

just a quick note in regards to dancing burlesque in dance studios; we hire out our own space to local performers (we have rigging, mirrors the whole shebang) but we do insist that performers don't wear outside or black soled shoes.

Particularly with burlesque when performers often don't wear dance shoes; it's very important to ask your studio if they allow certain shaped heels (which can dent dance floors) and another point; do NOT bring glitter into a studio practice area. No matter how 'integral' you think it is to your act it just isn't practical for most working studios.

Also, be prepared for some local authority ran halls/spaces to be unaccomodating to burlesque. When we ran an arts centre for North Tyneside Council, they repremanded us when Warren Speed was rehearsing for 'pornographic and unsuitable material'. It was his Chaplin act which is neither but they were unwilling to understand or listen.

Anyway....

xx

We hire out one of our photography studios (photography equipment moved out of the way) and we have huge tall ceilings so not a problem for fans etc..

Give me a shout if anyone in the Manchester/Bolton area wants to share costs on hiring a studio. I live in a 17th C house with small rooms and very low-ceilings so i could really do with hiring somewhere!
