Well, as you know, I'm no Southsider. But on all my various jaunts to that neck of the woods (coming from the motorway up Titwood Rd as one does) I honestly always thought that wee building was some dodgy bunker....

It's actually quite wonderful inside. The kind of place that should have a tinsel backdrop (and when La Roche Rumba is on, it does!)

As some of the key Club Tromolo people are southsiders and regulars there, we had a couple of runthroughs there (it seemed somehow appropriate), and here's a picture of my Charlie, working hard as always.

Yeah, same here. Even if I'd had more than 2 days notice, it would still be a no-goer. Hey ho!

I reckon within a decade we could get Baby Chou-Chou, Baby Burlescapades (Lily White's little 'un) and Baby Candy (Al & Violet's Tallulah) together to make some sort of troupe. If the makers of Donnie Darko don't mind, we could call them Sparkle Motion - a Lily White/RWP/Candy Box Production.

I shall send the new mama a wee text later to pass on my love and congrats. I want to be Petite-Petit Chou-Chou's Fairy Earthmother!

Hitting Capitol on September 26th, Cheesecake brings yet another decadent mix of burlesque beauties to the stage with rockin' bombshell, Sakura Tsui; Fanteaseya Belles', Calliope Cootch & Madison Rose; The Delicious Multicoloured Shaker, Hettie Heartache and, of course, that redneck hussy, Miss Alabama Rose (with more acts to be confirmed).

We also have musical delights from local band, Sonny Marvello and a new debut section of the show where one brand-spankin'-new performer can have the oppertunity to shake their tail feather in front of our darling audience (message Alabama here if interested).

    Looks to be another giggle.

Not really sure if this is the right place to post this so apologies if me dun wrong, the underbelly is looking for different types of acts for its evening cabaret bar during the fringe, think cabaret it says, anyway anybody out there interested, then send details to drew@underbelly.co.uk please be aware this is for peanuts and drink money so no fortunes to be made. can i also say ive got nowt to do with drew or the underbelly and only posting incase someone would like to perform.

Just a quick note - if you post your messages into the Scottish Scene Forum, the messages will automatically appear here too.

The difference is that the new messages will also appear on the home page too and the forum format will be much less confusing for people!

WOW, this is a great chinwagg, maybe it should be on the forum.... i originally attended la clique performances at the speigeltent 2 or 3yrs ago and at that time the ceaser twins were unknown to many scottish audiences, they moved onto the assembly i beleve but yes i do agree that theyre not really burlesque but becoz they performed as part of la clique then they kinda got put into the burlesque category, anyway im going to noir and hopefully tease at studio24, gonna check out bongo on the 3rd aug, hopefully not workin that nite??? i meant to say im a huge fan of eastern european theatre and will be heading down to see derevo during the fringe also, if youve never seen this company its a must!!!!!

    Lilly,
You don't need to have an event to promote, that's just one enjoyable factor about this group for those that do. Banter about attending the events and what you enjoy about burlesque is the point.
You are more than welcome to disagree with our comments, or anyone elses, there wouldn't ever be a debate if everyone agreed (plus that would be boring! ) It was just that your inital response came across as rather heated, that was all. Club Noir can be an excellent night out and I'm glad you enjoy it, am also glad that you've been going long enough to have seen myself and Rufus it would seem. The thread of discussion I wanted to present was what we all thought made up a truly good burlesque show, which considering you are keen to see as many events as possible, will hopefully be of some interest.
For example; in my opinion one of the best burlesque clubs in the UK is The Candybox in Birmingham, they've got the format nailed. An initmate, sit-down show with a live band, a beautiful singer (the outstanding Imelda May *swoon*) a witty, funny and professional compere (the hilarious Al Palooka) and you get to see some of the best burlesque from all over the world. Al & Saffron, the promoters, have allowed audiences in the UK the chance to see legendary US performers such as Kitten De Ville, Dirty Martini and Kitten on the Keys alongside the best burlesque talent from all over Britain. It's a show that combines the best of both worlds; American resurgance burlesque which is mainly striptease based and the bawdier, music-hall inspired British burlesque. Perfect!

On an unrelated note, I've just noticed there is actually a forum we should be using rather than this little message board Whoops, perhaps we should move the discussion there!

Hi not taking anything personally I just like burlesque and sadly I don't have an event to promote but you mention that i've championed noir exclusively I'm certainly not aware of that and if I have then maybe it's because I like it I joined up to Scottish Scene to enjoy all the burlesque banter and to visit as many events as possible. I simply disagree with your comments about club noir and look forward to seeing you both perform in Edinburgh.

    Hi Lady Lilly,

The Scottish Scene is totally an opportunity to plug your show! Feel free!

In response to your statement about the High Tease event at the Fringe; a number of the performers do not remove any clothing - they are classic vaudeville or musician/singers. There are some striptease acts, too. I believe that lucille was saying that a good event should have a mix.

Club Noir does have a couple of performers who don't strip but I feel that the event is rooted in the new style of burlesque which is much more about striptease.

And, indeed we did a non-striptease act for Noir in which the director asked Lucille if it was possible for her to take some costume off during our act which we felt really unnecessary and, quite rightly, refused!
