Default Victorian Values - 2nd October - Portsmouth

    VICTORIAN VALUES

Ministry of Burlesque 's Victorian Values is set to descend upon the Kings Theatre in Portsmouth on 2nd October, in conjunction with House of Burlesque .

Join us for an evening for frisky satire full of puns, bums, past and current buns in this unique series of classical burlesques (spectacular, satirical musical-comedies) which send up the eccentric morals, ethics and values of the British Empire - then and now.

Frightfully witty, bawdy, edgy and terrifically astute, Victorian Values is a hilarious, dark, sexy and daft exploration of the 19th century where we ask one simple question: Have we lost our Victorian Values? Or, have we simply misplaced them in time?

    The thrilling line up includes:
    • Joe Black - Our mysterious host and time traveling narrator...
    • Fred Bear as our most excellent and revered Queen Victoria
    • Dolores Delight as a tempestuous bawd, a delicious strumpet.
    • Dani California as a Cottingley Fairy, a wayward woman and as the spirit of Katie King.
    • Jim Devereaux as the honorable Brigadier Smythe, as Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle, as Sherlock Holmes and of course... The Piccadilly Prowler...
    • Myself (assuming the costume changes are fast) as Britannia, Kitty de Winter-Fairbotham, Dr. Watson, A dubious medium, Lola Montez and of course Lydia Thompson...

    PORTSMOUTH NEWS

    Victorian Values
    - At the Kings Theatre, Southsea

    Published Date:
    04 October 2010
    By Helen Smith
Eccentric, edgy and sensationally witty – House of Burlesque has returned to the Kings Theatre with the Ministry of Burlesque bringing their satirical extravaganza Victorian Values with them.
Our Master of Ceremonies was again Mr Joe Black, always a reliable source for deliciously naughty, just-over-the-line wit and cheeky melodies.

Treated to a delicious mix of fictional characters and historical figures, we meet a sensational Queen Victoria, while Kitty Klaw, founder of the Ministry of Burlesque, was a beautiful opium-addled vision of Britannia and later poured her heart into her roller boots – surely what every comedy-burlesque showcase needs.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's penchant for fairies is sent up beautifully, followed by some electric antics from Nurse Electron and her fanatical master.

Bringing the evening to a tumultuous close was again the astonishing Queen Victoria with a striptease to end all stripteases – bringing the audience to their feet for a roof-raising tribute to the Queen… any Queen!
