I live in Basingstoke and have experience with running shows. I am a performer also and would love to help you out any way I can. This is not a job for me it is a passion. I would love to give you any advice or perform or even help out. My partner is a techie kind of guy good with music, mixing, editing and also artwork for posters and flyers. If you are interested then give me a shout.

I helped run Blue burlesque in Reading before Hot Muffins started up. You really have to have the right location and great, I repeat, great marketing and publicity. Go to lots of nights, research even more, especially since you are fairly new to burlesque .
I wasn't in Reading to see how successful Hot Muffins was but I can say that Blue struggled. The club owner had control of the budget and had to keep cutting back in order to save money. The performers became less and less experienced and the owners system was to hire only two acts a month and have them perform two or three times...not very entertaining when compared to long-running events. You have to be prepared to run at a loss for a while. Burlesque isn't about profit and the audience will spot if corners have been cut.
A good network of contacts is essential. I can't tell you how many times being friendly with performers has got me out of a tight spot when trying to find performers at the last minute. It also helps news of the club to spread by word of mouth. A good reputation will have people travelling to see the show, rather than you relying on locals who don't want to have to travel into London.
Good luck! xxx
EDIT: meep, didn't realise how old this thread was, sorry
