Yeah I tink they start from around that price I got some 5 foot ones from millie, they cost £170, but I think that she was having a sale on fans at that point.
As soon as I've saved some money I gong to get some 6 foot ones from chocolat.

These ones are just over 4ft so probably good ones to start with. But would love to play with some larger ones.
Am planning on customising them slightly to so didn't want to spend too much on them.

I've had a look at the Ostriches online site and to be honest the single layer fans look a bit cheap and flimsy or am I expecting miracles here???
I'm definately no expert on fans but I'd like to be able to buy a second hand pair first to practice with before I decide whether to blackmail my other half into buying me a huuuuuge pair for Xmas!

I currently use the basic basic budget ostrich.com pair - and they're not flimsy, I'll tell you that! The acrylic staves are nigh invulnerable (^_^), my pair have been clattered about and accidentally dropped into the street and they're in perfect working order. Even the feathers are nice and strong. They hare, however, a bit sparse as the feathers are drab and not wing, so they're not particularly fluffy. But on stage and in pictures they look great - it's just that close up you can see they're a bit straggly ...

Aah so they do the business! Thanks for that, I was looking at those ones yesterday, I think it's because they're dark coloured on the picture it shows the white background through more clearly.
Might have to invest in a pair now, thanks Fleur!

If you look here:
MySpace
you can see a pair in action. Close up they look less full and fluffy, but those pics should show you what they look like from an audience's perspective
