Default Dilema question

All

As you are aware, I am a photographer who specialises in portraits... my current work is based around an exhibition celebrating burlesque.

I dont personally dress in a burlesque style...whilst I totally adore everything about burlesque, I have never dressed as such.

Can someone advise as to what would give me a little touch of burlesque without going all the way

Thanks
x

Oooh, it'll be very interesting to hear what people suggest as Im really new to the scene and curious what to wear....Guess it would depend on your own personal style and what you feel comfortable in.

Currently ive been experimenting with fifties style clothing-high waisted pencil skirts and fitted dresses but im branching out after just buying an underbust corset thinking it would be nice worn over dresses? lol

(watching for posts with baited breath....)

Love and stripes Axx

Now there's a curious remark, given that you have one of the most "Burlesque-esque" avatars that I've ever seen.
I'm not trying to be contentious, it's simply an observation. xx

A pencil skirt. Always a pencil skirt. With a fitted shirt. Ooh, a silky one.

Or, on the other hand, a full 50's style circle skirt. Anything vintage style, especially 30s - 50s and you can't go wrong really.

A fantastic place for vintage clothes is Beyond Retro in London. They have two stores and both are absolute treasure troves for vintage. They are really well priced as well. Even the designer vintage is less than £100 in most cases.

I'm going to go there again soon. I think I may be getting a present from Rich there

My avatar is one of the models I have had the pleasure of photographing - it is very burlesque-esque which is why I chose it to represent me.

the vivian of holloway circle dresses have been used in photoshoots for both charlotte church, nigella lawson and i believe that kate nash woman

so i guess they would be a good start to adding a vintage style to photoshoots without being too over the top?

burlesque is however generally over the top so it may be difficult to find a balance
