I've been attempting to create a Birmingham based craft group of the ever rising diy alternative craft takeoff. What would be better than the lovelies based in this area who make the pasties, corsets and other burlesque finery.

Does anyone know any Midlanders with nimble fingers and crafty brains who this might appeal to?

The alternative craft scene seems a bit on the downside in Brum and I think it's be great to go against the conventions and proove that we're not all knitting and stitching, but tassles and sequins.

Sorry for this being a bit random and all, it's something thats been bothering me for awhile and I'm attempting to be proactive!

At the moment it's just a way of getting crafters together online, and then hopefully organising meet ups and our own craft fairs etc.

How'd it go when you last did your own one?

It was really sucessfull... I had approx 10 ladies each week..

I stopped as I could not carry on managing the craft group along with my other professional commitments.

I am certainly interested in getting together.. x

What a good idea, wonder if theres someting similar in London. I would like to get together with others to make things as thats how i used to spend everyday in college, nattering while everyone made costumes and props ect. It would be good to have a more burlesque/vintage inspired craft group. As I type I'm waiting for my mini top hats to dry on their blocks.

I bet is must have been hard to maintain.

I think it's definately worth trying to get together, any ideas where though. Did you used to bring all your own stuff etc. I'm very nervous about starting this I've never done anything like this before.

Can't tell I have anxiety issues lol.

As a group leader I took the basics each week... i.e glue, scissors, inks, etc...

However I have been to another group where everyone takes their own stuff and its just time spent with likeminded people working on your own stuff.

For example, some people might choose to make garters, some pasties, some headwear etc...then one every few months, the group would all contribute £x and the leader bulk buys to allow everyone to make the same thing.

I used to provide paper copies of instructions etc..

I used to hire a venue, it cost me £15 for 2 hours... I did charge people to come to the group, just a nominal amount to cover the costs of the hire, tea, coffee, basic equipment etc.. never made any money but that was never my intention.

Where abouts in the Midlands are people from?

I'm a more black country than Birmingham but I travel in a lot for uni ^-^ xx
