Default Hat Help (H)appreciated! (...sorry...)

I have a lovely plain sinamay top hat fascinator which had the misfortune of getting a bit crushed in my bag over the weekend. I'd like to reshape it to its former glory and wondered if any of you lovely ladies knew how to go about this? Is it going to be a steam and newspaper job, will I have to do something with spray-on starch and should I really be fiddling with it at all?

I would also like to do a spot of customising and wondered if anyone had the name of a good supplier of millinery net?

Any tips gratefully received.

To be honest the best way of getting your mini hat back into shape is to use a little water and then stuff it with something to get it back to it's original shape.

Damp the sinamay down and then either pop is over something like an uptunred glass or candle (something that will push the dent back out) and leave to dry.

I make mini top hats and fascinators and travel around to shows and events with them, so they get bumped around a lot in my bags. Generally they are okay, but once in a while you get a dent.

Sinamay is already treated, so you shouldn't need to add anything else to it - but if you do, use sparingly as stiffeners leave marks on sinamay that is hard to get off/out. Also as it is a wide weave it tends to soak straight through.

As to millinery supplies try these

Thank you very much Miss Thrilby (sorry I've been offline all weekend). I hope that you've got a link somewhere on some of the threads to do a bit of plugging! Do you sell on eBay? I'll have a bash with some water and see how it goes but at least if it all goes pear-shaped then I'll know where to come for a new one! Now I also know that it's not net - its veiling. I suppose that's a bit like saying tennis players hit the ball with bats!
