Default help with wiggle dress

Ok, so I'm reconstructing an a-line, full length bridesmaid dress into a strapless wiggle dress. So far so good but I've never worn a dress like this before and I am curious as to how one actually works when it comes to walking around. Most of the ones I see online are made with a stretch fabric to accomodate walking but would I be ok to just put a slit in the back since the fabric Im using isn't stretchy? And what about hosery...all I have right now are black fishnets. would they look ok or should I try and find a pair of seamed stockings?
Sorry for all the questions, I usually don't have issues with this sort of thing but its a new look for me.

I would look around for stockings, they don't cost very much. I get mine from Ann Summers for £6 each. They have some lovely ones with red seams. I generally put my nail through them the first day I wear them, so they're not particlarly durable but they are cheap

If you wanted better quality, try What Katie Did or Stockingshq.com

No idea about the dress, but good luck!

Hey,

A slit in the back would work. You could test how far up this needs to go by walking round a bit and maybe sitting down to test how tight the dress is.

Hope this helps a bit!

I had a non-stretchy wiggle skirt with a slit that went right up to the bum. I split that bad boy more than once! I even repaired it at a train station with items I'd bought from the newsagents :s

Don't cut the fabric too much (especially the top of the split) until you've pinned the skirt and tried it on to test how walking in it works. It might be worth working on the dress inside out for this (otherwise the excess fabric will get in the way as you try the garment on and won't allow you to get an accurate idea of the fit). Then tack it and try it on, and finally machine sew it an try it on. This gives you 3 opportunities to change the shape if the design isn't quite right. If you're happy with it after machine sewing, cut off the excess fabric.

Is the skirt currently A-line, or something narrower?

Strengthen the top of the slit by stitching back & forth vertically & horizontally quite a few times to secure it.
Happy wiggling!

The dress was a-line and quite wide at the bottom. Since my show is tomorrow it is done (though now that I think about it, I havent' tried sitting in it!). I did end up putting a slit int he back, reinforced it as mentioned. I did this after I had the dress on and the thought occured to me that I should check and make sure I can lift it so I can use the washroom!

I was hoping for it to be strapless but alas, me and strapless have never worked out well for various reasons so I have tacked my bra to the inside of the dress giving it straps and support at the same time!

hehe, thanks for all the suggestions, they are excellent.
