Non-permanent hair dye?
Hi there!
I'd like to try the black hair look without going permanent...does anyone know of a brand that does black hairdye that won't last longer than a week or two (maximum)?
Thanks!

Oh my, finding black semi-permanent dye is sooo hard! I've never been able to find it myself. You can get wash-in-wash-out dyes, but I once tried a supposedly black one which ended up purple so be careful not to buy cheap ones.
Saying all this though there is apparently a Schwarzkopf range of semi-permanents which includes black, but I've never been able to find it in the shops. If you manage to find this holy grail then please let me know!

I dyed my friend's hair with a 'semi-permanent' black dye, and she eneded up having to grow it out. It was only meant to last about three weeks, but it wouldn't come out! Maybe your hairdresser is a safer bet??

I got fed up of ruining my hair with permanent black dyes until someone put me onto Movida (try Superdrug stores) and I've figured if I keep using it long enough, eventually I'll be able to get it stripped back to blonde!

A lot of hairdressers don't have semi-permanent black. I found it once in a really cheap hairdressers when I was a student. It lasted about three months before it started to fade and I loved it! Took about six months for me to get back to my original hair colour. When I graduated I couldn't find a single place back in Derby that would do me a semi in black, and ended up getting it done with a very dark brown instead. The first time it ended up looking ginger under sunlight and the second time (for I did not learn my lesson) it was just not as dark as the colourist said it would be. It ended up leaving a lot of red behind on my hair, which is still there to this day, nearly three full years later! So be careful with hairdressers, black isn't always available!

Ah, I'd better be careful then! I keep getting mental images of me with my normal brown hair, and random big black patches, cow-style! Hah Maybe I'd better experiment with a different colour then...hmmm....

It's all very well to just go for it permanent if you know it will suit you - the friend in question hated it, and as the dye was definitely not as semi-permanent as it claimed, it was a bit of a hassle for her, 'cause she couldn't really dye over it.
Try a black wig and see if the colour suits you!

I used to use Movida semi-permanent black, but it left a lot of residue in my hair. I'd stopped using it for about 3 months before I went for a consultation at a hairdressers about stripping my hair blonde and then dying it a pink/red colour... but even then there was too much residue for the bleach to do its stuff. I ended up using a strong shampoo on my hair for a couple of months in order to strip the stuff out. When it had finally gone I'd lost the nerve to go such an outrageous colour, so ended up throwing a semi-permanent chocolate colour all over!
Stupid hair dyes.
You could always try using henna from lush to gradually darken your hair. I imagine that would wash out much easier, but this is only a guess.
