Thanks hun, I'm sure lots of forum users will find that useful.
I prefer to use cosmetics that neither test on animals nor include animal products (i.e. beeswax, lanolin etc.). Beauty Without Cruelty do a wonderful red nail varnish!! x

Big list of animal friendly cosmetics
Ok, here's the list of 100% animal friendly cosmetics (so non of the pesky ingredients have been tested on animals either)
Aldi own brand,
B never too busy to be beautiful
Barry M
Bayliss & Harding
Dr Hauschka range
Hard candy
Healthspan (Nurture)
Lavera
Liz earle naturally active skincare
Logona
Marks & Spencer
Martha Hill
Mavala
Next
Sante
Susan Molyneux
Ted Baker (clothes are supposed to be ethically good too)
The organic pharmacy
Uban Decay
Sadly, my booklet has a massive list of all the companies to avoid as they either test on animals or the ingredients have been tested on animals and I can officially confirm that BeneFit, MAC and Body shop are a no go.
Anyway, hope that helps!

Woah! I thought Body Shop were against animal testing? I mean, I haven't used their products since I was in high school but I thought that was part of their advertising and everything.

Well, as my knowledge goes, that's just it: Body Shop is AGAINST animal testing... which isn't the same as NOT TESTING ON ANIMALS. They always made a point of stating that if they did use products that were tested on animals, they had been tested long in the past and that testing hadn't been commissioned by the Body Shop... or something like that.
...I think the big buy out by L'Oreal probably didn't help.

Yeah the booklet thing that I have doesn't include body shop as they're owned by L'Oreal and if you support Body shop then you're essentially supporting L'Oreal who do test on animals

Ooh, wow. I would have thought in this day and age that testing on animals would be a thing of the past. I can't believe companies still do this knowing full well how most consumers feel about it.
I suppose it could be down to naivety of the public though. I honestly thought that animal testing was banned in most countries. More fool me, I need to do a bit more research. I'm thanking my lucky stars I haven't been using L'Oreal/Bodyshop/MAC anyway but I would have been none the wiser if I had.

Body shop is owned by nestle who are well known for being unethical. It was bought out a few years ago.
I refuse to go in body shop it makes me sick that a company like nestle are trying to make money out of the fact that alot of people would rather buy ethical products, which they no longer sell as none of the stuff is ethical.

What really annoys me is that so many companies put 'Against animal testing' on their products when they know full well that the ingredients have been tested on animals!
If all ingredients have been tested on animals then, well there wouldn't be much way around it. But the fact that there's a large number of companies that are completely animal friendly just goes to show that it can be done and that most other companies are lazy and don't really care how their product is tested.
GRRRR!

Miss Tres, where did you get this booklet from I think i'd find it handy to have a copy around for refrencing.
Just thought I'd mention that when that Blood, Sweat and T-shirts program was on BBC 3 there was a site up supporting it about ethical clothing etc,
In fact instead of being lazy and sending you all to search for it, here's the link,
the stuffs pricey but some of it is probably worth it
BBC - Thread - the online fashion magazine dedicated to eco-fabulous style
Also does anyone know that if Clothing is made out of organic cotton if it's still ethical, I've noticed that a lot of shops seem to give the impression of this, or maybe it's just me misunderstanding.

Wouldn't it be nice if one day we could live in a world (or country at least) where legislation meant that you wouldn't even have to ask if things had been produced ethically! Though I'm generally a rather liberal-minded person, and against unnecessary legislation, one might have hoped that in this day and age one could shop without the exploitation of people or animals weighing on one's conscience - though it seems that a lot of people are happy to ignore it, but maybe that's just the flouride in the water .
In any case, ethical sensibilities just aren't keeping pace with our all-encompassing consumerism.
Still, maybe one-day
