You said you have very long hair? Why not try just dying the tips of a small section?

Ok So this is what i know ( I change my hair Dead frequently to various colours) first of all what is your budget?
You'll need a really good conditioner, And i recommend Fudge Dinamite, it is really priccey however, but a good alternative is the treseme deep repair mask, and id use it EVERY time you wash your hair.

Angel is right, Head and shoulders is good for getting semi permanant dye out, and other than that, washing powder is as well, the only thing is this really does damage your hair, hence the need of a good shampoo,

For bleach, I havent had good results with many except Jerome russel, 12% volume. remeber to start with the tips and mid lengths though!!!!!! are it can be disasterous,

As for Dye... Directions is just conditioner with colour in!!! that is a fantastic dye, as is special Fx, I use directions- Famingo pink for florescent pink and pillerbox read for very red hair!!!

Make sure you have a shamppoo and conditioner for coloured hair, the Elvive is quite good, Use the Fudge/treseme after your usual conditioner.

Oooooh a better tip also.. Put a little of your dye in with your normal conditioner when you need to, it tops up your colour so you will only have to dye it once a month!!!

Hope ive helped a little hun

also to addess this, the pink will go over the Orange.. as you ut it, but it wont be as vibrant and may take longer...

Dont be afraid to leave on the directions hair dye untill it dries, it is only conditioner so it wont hurt you hair

Crikey! I used Manic Panic bleach a while ago, and it burned my head and was more damaging than anything ive ever used

I normally use L'Oreal pre lightener to bleach my hair before colouring.

Ive never used Manic Panic colours, but I hear they are ok.

The most vibrant colour I have found is Stargazer. It fades out nicely too, so it doesnt look manky as it fades,. The bottle lasts several uses, and you can add a bit of water to it to eek it out for longer!

Aww, didnt mean to confuse you!

I've had an idea though.

Have you considered doing this bit by bit, having chunky highlights of pink hair to start with, to see how it goes, then gradually add more and more pink? It should be pretty easy- bleach strands of hair then use the pink dye all over, and you will be left with bright pink strands, and darker other bits, but still with a hint of the pinkness. As the semi-pernanent black fades, each time you redo the pink, the rest of your hair will get brighter, until you are ready to do the lot!

If you just dye strands, you can also see if the bleach suits your hair, and how long you should leave it for, etc, without risking ruining your whole head!

Just to sort-of repeat what's already been said...if you find your Manic Panic colour doesn't last very long (mine didn't), try Special Effects. The colour is really strong (you can see here:red, purple)and for me at least it stays that way for about 6 weeks before it starts to fade...I don't know how this compares to Stargazer, never tried that.

Also, you might be able to find good deals on ebay for manic panic/special effects sometimes, but I've found this place the cheapest: Rockstar Retail (it works out cheaper to order from America than it does from UK places :? )

This thread is making me want to dye my hair again...it's a fairly normal dark red at the minute.

Here is a demo of the Stargazer ones I have used: Bright Pink (they do a pale pink too, so dont get that by mistake!), violet, and hot red. I bleached my hair each time first.

ETA: the first two come up hyuuuge when you click on them Sorry about that!!! :S

My friend who dyes her hair constantly warned me off manic panic; said it was the worst dye she's ever used!
