Fans...again
Hi everyone,
I know this topic has been touched on before but i checked the past forum coversations and i don't think my question has already been covered....
I am looking to get my first set of feather fans and so far the most reasonably priced ones i found are on ostriches online and they are self assembly... as i am not the richest lady and these are just my first set to get a feel of the dance they don't need to be too fancy at this stage...
my question is, did anyone else get self assembly fans from here as how easy/difficult is it to put them together... i know i could spend the extra money and buy pre-assembled but i thought buying them this way might help me learn how to make my own from scratch in the future...
anyway, hope some of you ladies (or gents) can help

Hi Emerald
One of my friends got self-assembly fans from them and she managed to put them together quite easily as far as I know. The only thing is, people have said in the past that they can be quite slow to deliver and I think one or two other issues have come up.
I make my own fans, but I cheated recently and bought a pair as Im too snowed under with uni work just now to have time to make a pair. I got mine custom-made by www.featherstore.com and they are fab. They took about 3 weeks to arrive, cost £112 for the pair (though I had to pay a £30 customs charge, but still cheaper than ostrich.com) and I would definitely recommend them. I'm not sure if they do self-assembly though.
I also believe Miss Diamond Blush is thinking about putting together self-assembly fan packs (this is in one of the previous fan threads I think but you could pm her.)
Anyway, hope this helps.

I am thinking on putting self-assembly fan kits together.... however they do take a lot of work to make. I doubt I will have time to put together the instructions and prices for a while as I am very busy sorting my website and other stuff. It also depends on what type of staves you want as I currently only sell bamboo.
PM me if you want to chat about fans.

hey hun,
thanks for the info... on saturday i found some huge chinese paper fans at my local market for sale at £10 each so i think i might try stripping those down and customising them into feather fans (i'm kind of handy with stuff like that)... if that doesn't work, i'll probably be back to the drawing board! If you do the fan kits in the future it would be cool though!

Feather suppliers
Thanks for the tips on where to get feathers from- i've just logged onto the feather store and decided to enter some hat designs into their competition! Wish me luck.

hello sweetie, I might be late on replying to this one - I just saw it - and I did get my fans with self assembly. The look lovely anyway, they're just very different from the bamboo ones - they have advantages and dis-advantages. Anyways, the self-assembly is not difficult at all, it just requires a bit of time. I remember assembling them last spring in the garden on a sunny day with my best friend - he's a very patient and precise guy, whilst I'm impatient and quick tempered, and I'm not too precise. I would say: if I bought another pair, I'd ge Ostrich to assemble them, for an extra £20, but it's because I don't have the time and patience. If you like making things and have a bit of time, and you'd rather save the money, then do it yourself., it's not difficult. What I noticed when I made my own, was that I could actually make the fans myself from scratch! Just find feathers and staves...
I hope this helps, and if you make those fans, make sure to post pictures!
xx

Just make sure you buy Ostrich Wings and not Drabs as they are a lot more fluffy!
