contemplating a blonde streak....
...in the front of my hair.
I have a couple of questions for those of you in the know....
I have a thick fringe which I'm growing out ( currently level with top lip). Will it look ridiculous if I only have half of the sort of fringe bleached? my hair parts on the side so maybe I could just get the thicker side done?
Also, I have very dark brown, semi-permanent colour on my hair ( natural colour is medium brown).
Will it be possible to bleach it without it a) going orange and b) falling out?
Any advice will be very gratefully received!

Blonde streak
I'd advise you to go to get your streak done professionally to begin with - ideally somewhere 'retro' like Ninas Vintage and retro hair and make up - Home who will know what you're talking about. I went there for a year getting my blonde bit touched up once a month, but then couldn't make it to London and had to touch it up myself (using, I think, Jonelle peroxide from Boots - strong enough to strip the colour out!) I've been touching it up myself for the last year with no trouble at all - but for the first couple of times I'd get it done professionally.
KatieFaux vintage lingerie, corsetry and hosiery since 1999.

Thanks for the advice, Katie. Unfortunately I live in the arse end of Wales so will have to do a bit of local research.... I'm not holding out much hope!

Do it! I've had half of my short fringe done in white blonde, and the first time was a little tough because I had permanent black dye on it, but the second and third times it came out a lovely baby blonde... As long as you go to a professional I can't see a problem. My only issue now is the cost of keeping it like this, as I always used to dye it at home before! Anyone out there managed it themselves once a hairdresser had 'got it started', so to speak?!

Hi hun,
I think it will look fine, but would really recommend going to a pro. If not it may well end up orange as you said. Whereas if you go to a salon they'll do a good job and although it will cost a few pennies and be a bit of hassle getting there (by the sounds of it), it'll look hot

I got my friend who used to do hairdressing to do mine with a boots peroxide kit, she changed the amounts from what it said on the pack to make it a bit stronger so you might need a bit of help with that :-/ but since I dyed my roots at home all by myself with standard amounts, no orange! Also if it does go a bit orange you can use 'touch of silver' shampoo from the chemist (commonly used for a purple rinse) but it brings out white and reduces copper tones, it's really good!

I have a blonde streak at the front, now with a short fringe - which works really well. But I used to have a side parting, with shorter/shaved hair on one side and the streak on the opposite side.
(there are vague pics in my personal blog - I kill fraggles and wear their skins...: HAIR! - the second pic is with the short fringe, the third pic is with the side parting but the streak is red instead at that point).
The only thing I would say was depending on how I styled my hair, it sometimes looked a bit odd, but I think this was because it was on the opposite side to the parting and so was sort of swamped in all my thick hair. If you are going to have it the side of the parting, I think it would look cute.

This is my attempt at a blonde streak I did last week. Its quite a small section of hair and when its down straight not even visible. I used Jerome Russel bleach from boot. I've been dying my hair black for years so with all that build up it came out very well! luckily my hair is in good condition so it took two goes without getting fried. its a bit brassy at the ends but another blast with the bleach in a few weeks and it'll be fine. no harm in doing it yourself!
